Knitting needles....................pence!!!!!! Jim Yes Jim you are probably right as you can't wind under tension with any of these devices, but they are helpful to people that struggle to make coils The best coils are built under tension

Just thinkin out loud

Jim I'm sure Greg would give you the same answer as he gave you in a previous thread on Kuro style coilers. Arthritis in my left thumb is making coiling on a drill bit very difficult and the result is poor coils. I'm hoping these will make it easier. We are all different. I used a machine to roll my fags which you seem to think is Some people walk from Alresford to Alton but I prefer to do it by steam train. Each to their own.

they are helpful to people that struggle to make coils I appreciate that chicken ,I just got the idea they were thought to be able to make better coils. I'm all for doing things on the cheap the cost of the tool would buy a lot of Kanthal and Cotton! Jim

Drill bits are too short, hard to hold, why I use a knitting needle.

You could use them the wrong way round and coil under tension, but these make nice even coils with min effort

Drill bits are too short, hard to hold, why I use a knitting needle. I'm trying different things to see if I can make better coils. Now trying 2.5mm piano wire, about the length of a knitting needle which I bought to use in a coiling under tension set up. It's better but I still drop it when my thumb hurts . I'm hoping the Kuro coiler will work as it will be a lot cheaper than getting the rest of the bits for the coiling under tension contraption. The train is on the Watercress Line www.watercressline.co.uk/

Ok on the piano wire smifee , my fingers aren't what they used to be either! Never visited the Mid Hants, my loss, but I am a member of the GCR. www.gcrailway.co.uk/Don't know anything about a tension coil winder other than pulling the wire tight as I wrap the coil round the needle. I use a 2mm and 0.25 wire for my Pro tanks, 2.5mm and 0.3mm wire for my Magmas. Jim
