Nah! not the usual one, but I'm baffled, been getting along fine with my protankII's with 1.8 coils, nice vapour and nice taste, I've just recieved my order of new coils from FT, Yup! did another check to make sure they are the right ones, put one in and got a burnt taste even after letting it sit for 10 minutes, checked the Ohms and it's showing 1.9, played with watts and voltage everything still burnt, with the protank I found that 6.5 watts suits me fine but whatever I set it at it's still burnt, thought duff coil so put another on in, still burnt taste, put another one in and did a dry burn first, bit of smoke and crackling, set it to 6.5 fired it up and still burnt taste, so three coils all giving burnt taste, they are exactly the same coils that came with the protanks so I can't work out why these new ones are giving the burnt taste, am I doing something wrong? as I've never had any trouble with my other stuff, Mow,,,,

MVP2 Igual! it's exactly the same set up I've been using on 6.5w, I've tried every Volt and Watt settting, the only difference I can think of is I've been using it with the original coils and the new ones are FT coils, I re-checked the Ohms on the three new ones I've just tried and the original ones and they are all reading 1.9ohms, all I can taste is burnt with the new ones! no flavour at all and it stings my throat,

I read that taking the silicone grommet off the chimney and turning it upside down sometimes fixes this kind of burning mowjo might be worth trying to see if it helps.

mowjo I mistakenly bought ones from FT which were not authentic and although I didn't have the burnt taste they did taste terribly awwwwwwful When buying from FT you should get the authentic ones here: www.fasttech.com/p/1476404 much better coils. My mistake cost me dearly as I bought around 50 of them I think Edit: You could try soaking the coils in bicarbonate of soda overnight, rinse in plain water & dry, then try them again.

Thanks folks! Tried your fix Autumn no different though I did seem to get more vapour, I pressume that's down to opening the wick holes up, Toots! I think you have hit it on the head! rooting throught my box of bits I found a brand new original coil, I gave the protank a good clean, stuck the new coil in and it's back to normal vaping and tasting great, so it can only be the coils and as they are basically the same it must be the wick they use or something in them, I stuck the others in Bi-carb so I'll try them again when they are done, I've saved the FT link so I don't make that mistake again, luckily I only ordered 15 so not too bad, I'll re-order some of the original ones, once again thanks everyone,,, Mow,,,,

Only thing I can think that may/may not help is direct dripping on to the coil through the inner tube and also regularly (it does however get to be a pain) unscrewing protank tank partially whilst holding protank upside down Not a great fix but saves bad nicotine withdrawal for a few hours. I was doing this only yesterday when out and about

I nearly ended up throwing out my protanks would you believe. I was pulling my hair out due to the vile taste I was getting, it was soooooo frustrating at the time. I've moved on to iclear 16's now though. I think I prefer a warmer vape than I was getting from the protanks. Much happier with those iclears.

mowjo It aint wicking right! Take the chimney off and remove the extra bits of wick on top of the coil. If that don't work you'll need to learn to re-coil and re-wick! Post them to me and I'll do them for you.

Thanks again folks! I will try all those ideas, I have a couple soaking so once done I'll give them another try as I can only think it's the wick they use, I took an old one and a new one apart and they look the same apart from the peg at the bottom on the new ones its a solid pin on the ole ones it has a groove in it and the wick in the new ones feels a bit softer than the originals,
Thanks for that offer Jim! If all else fails I might take you up on it, I really need to sort myself out with making coils, having fat fingers and iffy eyesight Perps suggestion looks like the easy way to go for me, but I think i'll still need one of those magnifieing stands, just out of interest! what does that second top wick do? I've heard mention somewhere before to remove it, but for the life of me I can't remember why,,,,
Mow,,,
Perp! I just looked at both of those! is one better than the other?? apart from price the only difference I can see is one the wick is twisted and the other looks like it's woven,,,

I use FT replacements all the time but found following:- When arrive taste burnt or funky, do not bother now just re-coil and rewick (I use cotton wool), as on arrival not good. I used to do my own coils but now buy these www.fasttech.com/products/1680203Sitting vaping on an evod with one in now, fine and so cheap not worth effort of doing own coils, just remember to give them a burst of blowtorch or gas cooker before use, if you not done it before it's just a bit of practice, I can re-coil in under a minute (apart from occasional sod that gives you grief). The FT replacements with the long chimneys just dont work for me, all have been broken up for spares, but I suppose it varies on what your putting them in, short ones work in Evods, Original Protank, Protank 3 mini cannot comment on others as do not own. Hope thats some help. MP PS link was to 2.7 ohms, thats my taste, but others available

I think I should have said before but MP's reply just made me think, it's not really a burnt taste as such just a weird taste almost chemical that kills any taste in the juice, Looking at Iguals vid on re-coiling, is it possible to carefully tease the old wick out and re-wick with cotton? is there a special cotton pad or anything I should try it with?? I seem to remember you shouldn't dry burn cotton! I think if I can re-wick the rest of it looks easy to me,

I get the weird taste if the coils not been heated to orange a couple of times before using.
