Organic cotton, just to make sure there are no extra nasty chemicals in it, such as bleach etc.
and yes do not dry burn cotton, just dry burn the coil before adding new cotton.

what does that second top wick do? It's an attempt to stop the wick from flooding, but as often as not it over compresses the wick and slows down juice flow causing the wick to dry out at high vaping rates! Jim

you need to change the liquid as well - once it got burn't - it continues to taste burnt

It happened to me not only once - this is why I am very careful - not letting the coil go too bad - I change it when it starts tasting neutral and before the burned taste

Perp! I just looked at both of those! is one better than the other?? apart from price the only difference I can see is one the wick is twisted and the other looks like it's woven,,, Either or for me mowjo . . . one is just as you say a twisted wick, while the braided one is more like Ekowool. They're reasonable enough to buy a couple of packs of both and see which you prefer. I always lay a snipped off piece of the twisted silica over the coil as well before re-assembling. Works perfectly for me, no leaks and a doddle to do.

mowjo the other couple of things I've found with some non-authentic kanger-style coil heads are:- 1. check the grommet around the bottom +ive pin - if it's a white colour then the burned taste is often down to the grommet not being heat-resistant enough, and therefore burning/melting the grommet. If you have some silicone grommets from old original heads they should be subbed in instead of the white ones. I currently need to find a source of silicone grommets, so if anyone knows of a source please share 2. try boiling the new heads for a few minutes, completely immersed, in a pan on the cooker (remove the chimney grommet first). Once done, rinse with some clean water, dry off and use. It'll take a few draws to disperse the water left in the wick and pull the juice through, but what this does is clean out anything in the wick before you start. Incidentally, I use these www.fasttech.com/products/1593911 from fastteck, and always boil them before use and they're good. If I'm honest, I think it's more than likely the grommets, and just to reiterate, if anyone knows a good source of silicone kanger grommets, please share, pleeze

I've just been suffering the very same problem with my PT2, mowjo, it's ripped my throat a few times. It was a fresh head made with an FT readymade. Was showing correctly, so good to go & then a throat ripping nasty hit. Put it down, tried again, was sort of OK then.... Changed the gromit, OK, then a worse aaaaargh! So, just put in an authentic Kanger head & guess what.....!!!!!! Removed the PT airflow doodad & seemed OK, phew! 10 or so puffs later, the same again. Have now put it out of my reach before I chuck the whole ruddy lot through the window. It'll be a lovely full tank of RA down the plughole too, as that will probably have a taste now, once I can be fashed to pick it up again. And breathe......... Hope you're now a happy vaping bunny.

talking silicone grommets check the upper seal on the chimneys. I have had some that are longer/deeper than usual and when all screwed in place block of more the wicking apertures in the head.

I also give the underside of the chimney & the grommet itself a good clean when I change coils, it's amazing the amount of claggy residue that can build up on them.

Right Folks update time! three coils cleaned three different ways, Bi-carb, Steradent and Vodka, tried each one with new juice and all three still tasted like I was vaping a burnt sweaty sock, I'd even swapped the gromits beforehand just in case, so I thought as they were C**p I'd take them apart and see if I could work out what was going on and if I could be brave enough to have a go at re-wicking them, got the chinmeys off after a struggle, boy were they tight, gently teased the wicks out, and noticed the coils wern't the best made and they were sitting low in the coil thingy, I managed to find a little 1.5mm drill bit and teased them up a bit as the was no way to re-wick them sitting as low as they were, cheacked them on the MVP and all three were reading 1.9ohm so at least I hadn't killed them, next problem was I had nothing to re-wick them with but in the bathroom I found some cotton buds and then spent the next 10 minutes teasing out the cotton bud to try and get something usable, now I don't know if you can use this stuff but I thought it couldn't be any worse, Watched Iguals vid again and I actually managed to re-wick them, Woohoo! I hear you say! and what made it beven better was it looked as good as any of the ready mades I have, so put a few drops of juice on it and put it back in the coil thingy, quarter filled the ProtankII let it sit for 5 minutes, re-checked the Ohms and fired it up? my next comment was Kin Ell! I could not believe the difference, not a trace of nasty taste and my juice tasted better than I can ever remember it tasting before, So conclusion!! it's definatly the wick they use in that coil, even better thanks to you folk I now have the confidence to re-wick and even re-coil my own coils, and I'm also converted to Cotton, so next order will be premade wires and I'll wick them with some proper organic cotton, I really can't thank you folk enough for all your help, also with the other two coils! I had a couple of juices I didn't like, I tried them with the new cotton coils and the difference in the taste is unbelievable, they have gone from nasty to nice, I'm just glad I didn't bin them,,,,

110876809342 GunJack the above is a stock number from eBay, the smallest grommet fits the kanger heads perfectly. Bought these, chucked away the elbows stored the larger grommets and now use the smallest as and when a head heads a new grommet. You get 100 of each.
