The vapout doesn't have to go into your lungs to get the nicotine hit, the nicotine is absorbed through the membranes in your mouth. Perhaps you don't need to drag on it so deeply? Even a tiny drag is making me cough.

maybe a reaction to one of the ingredients in the juice? or the mix etc?..
I havn't used a Riva yet, but with my ecig I try not to take it into my lungs much anyway because I had a lung problem, and think more "upwards" like karma sais I play with smoke in my mouth and let it absorb there, then tend to exhale out of my nose. but If I want a throat hit I will inhale into my lungs a bit..

Are your cartomizers wet enough? You're not burning them are you?

all I can suggest then is the same as Chrissie and that you hold the vapour in your mouth longer. I don't really inhale much into my lungs now that I've got used to it. i have the vanilla tobac from Grizwald too, i love it!

Somebody else had a similar problem to yours Honkey, not long ago, where they kept coughing. I'm not sure what the outcome was though.
I can only echo what the others have said, shorter draws and don't direct inhale.
A lot of people do find it a bit of a shock at first and anybody that I let try mine, does tend to cough their head off (I don't do it deliberately honest), but they soon seem to get used to it.
You can cut the juice with VG from the supermarket, which will decrease the NIC content and the flavour, but may be worth a try if you are still getting the same result in a day or two.

Riva manual: Charge for 8 hours, then use for 20 minutes, then charge for 1 more hour. Then after that three hours a time for a full charge. You studied the instruction manual !! Nicotine is pretty harsh on the throat in mist form. When I gave up for 3 years I used NRT and the nic spray used to close my throat and make me cough and gasp for breath so I finally used lozenges. Try a zero mg juice and if coughing still persists, it's probably an allergic reaction so stop. If not best thing to do is add a few drops of VG like Jason suggested or get a couple of bottles of 50/50 ejuice from Paradise Vape. They are pretty mild in 18mg strength especially menthol and RY4. I am sure you already know this but steady slow drags help mute the throat hit. Cartomizers (ie the ones with the wadding) also mute the TH as opposed to direct dripping and clearo tanks etc. in my limited experience.

Thanks for the help and comments everyone.
I'm getting a bit more used to it now. I can see that you have to alter your style of "smoking" .. vaping is obviously quite different. Actually it seems to me that vaping is more similiar to pipe or cigar smoking, than cigarette smoking, which is tricky for a fag smoker to get used to. I have taken on board the suggestions, am taking much smaller draws, holding the vapour for a second or two before inhaling, and that does make a difference. Sometimes I don't inhale but just enjoy the taste in my mouth (as you would a cigar.) I'm now getting on with it a LOT better. There's a way to go, but I think I'm getting the hang of this.
Incidentally I took it to my local social club last night, showed the barmen, etc, and they were really good about it and had no problem with me having a puff while sitting drinking my pint. Which was very nice, considering the snow last night!!!!

Great stuff.
I would also get a higher resistance cartomizer than you are currently using from what you are describing
You'll probably find that greatly enhances your vaping experience..So if you are using 2.0 ohm go for 2.4-2.5 ohm cart.

The ones I've been using so far are Boges. Not sure what resistance they are to be honest, as they came with my kit. I'm going to try one of the Kanger cartos this evening that also came with it.
