I am looking to buy an ohm meter, but not sure what to get. Do I go for el cheapo £3.80 HERE with an accuracy of +/- 0.4% or middle of the road £9 accurate to .01 ohm, HERE Or up market (for me) HERE, that tests volts too? My thinking is el cheapo, but happy to be guided by you experienced people.

I might use it for sub ohm, but more likely between 1 and 2 ohm. The cheapo one does measure sub ohm .01-9.99 ohm. The accuracy seems fine at .4% which if my thinking is right would be a bigger margin of error at the higher ohm readings. Ie 9.99 ohm might be 10.02 or 9.95. While .500 ohm might read .502 or .498, which in the scheme of things doesn't seem too bad. But not having sub ohm'd I don't know if this makes a big difference.

Thanks robby and phtumshk. Decided to go for the middle one. I was going to choose THIS one for £1 more, but wasn't sure about the batteries in it, or if it had a battery in it at all and it needed to be plugged into a usb all the time.

I've got the £1 more one Bobsbeer and it's great. You plug it in to the USB to charge it, then once charged, it lasts for months between charges

Think I bought the el cheapo. Worked great, 3 times. Now it just reads 1 ohm all the time. It's shorting somewhere in the 510 connector which I have now removed and stripped everything else from. I've ordered a new fat daddy type 510 which is spring loaded and few other bits to make rta workstation. It will have 2 510 connectors on it, 1 where I can build fit and measure the resistance of the coil and the other will be able to fire the coil to test and tweak it. More of a hobby thing than a necessity.

Having looked at all 4 , I would choose either the cheap or the middle of the road and for one reason , they both have replaceable batteries. As long as they are accurate then that's what I would go for.I must also mention that I haven't got myself a ohm reader myself yet , but I would prefer getting one from the UK with said replaceable batteries and good build quality , anyone ? I can't imagine many get made in the UK, Montana and most will come from China, so I don't see much advantage to buying in the UK unless it's faulty then you can take it back. Buying from Fasttech would mean chucking it in the bin.

Surely the biggest problem with the male 510 voltage checker is the sideways (wrong word) stress on the connection from screwing in a long metal tube. I have a little atty shaped meter which I screw into a mech, but in truth I rarely use it - working on the principle that it's better to charge a partially discharged battery than a more than partially discharged battery?

When I screw the atty into the ohm meter and then turn on, it gives a false reading! If I turn on and then screw the atty in it reads true! Is this normal?
