Hello master mixers I am just about to embark on my first mixes as my kit arrived today. Question I have is how many drops per ml do people suggest using on the calculator sites, is it always a standard or does it change with each concentrate or manufacturer. I have seen suggestions of 20 and of 35 so quite a difference I suspect.. What is the general consensus? Stu

Its really best not to measure by drops, as every brand has different driptips on the bottle. You are best going with syringes and measurements that way

Drops per ml can vary considerably depending on type of dropper bottle. Also if using drops for more than concentrates, viscosity of the liquid will also effect the drops/ml. I find a 1ml syringe does the trick... easier and more accurate than drops. [ETA] - 'd by Pepperty !

As Pepperty says, go with syringes where ever possible. Different manufacturers use different makes of bottles which all have different sized holes in the dropper tops. The average I would say is nearer 30 than 20, but they are really so variable that a syringe will make a much more accurate job of it. Having said all that, don't panic over the decimal points when mixing, rounding off the the nearest .5 ml will be plenty good enough!

Thanks folks, boy you guys are quick to reply. I do have some 1ml syringes so will be using them, it was just that the site I am using for calculating quantitys has a field for drops per ml so was trying to get that as accurate as possible. As I don't have a PC (only an ipad) I need to use an online service. I'll let you all know how my first day as a vape scientist goes

canderwood- here's the site for you then - register and you can save all your recipes, privately if you wish, and they are always there to refer to wherever you are. You can set the number of drops/ml if you want to. Oops - thanks to Postmodern Smoking, I missed out the link - here goes! eliquid-recipes.co.uk/

Hi canderwood and welcome to the wonderful world of mixology. There is a new app available in the iTunes app store called CIGTOY. It has a mixing calculator, along with ohms law and coil resistance calculators. It's only very new, but seems to be nice and simple to use. Or the mixing calculator on the forum, if you're viewing it through the net and not on something like tapatalk, is on the right hand side of the navigation bar.

As a rule anything under 1ml I work on 30 drops to a ml canderwood . . . and bung a few more in if it's a thin dropper nozzle. Not necessarily a method that suits everyone, but it works fine for me - if you wanted a little more accuracy, then you could always measure using some plain VG/PG how many drops it takes to achieve 1ml with a couple of nozzle sizes. Our forum calculator works with an Ipad . . . . allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/page/calculator

Thanks for the links chykensa and lairey I will go and check them out. Setting up for a mixing session this afternoon so will see what comes out of that and as I will be making 10ml trials I will use your suggestion Perpetua and try drops for the quantitys that are v small. Weirdly I feel quite nervous about the whole process, fear of the unknown I guess.. Stu

Top tip have kitchen paper ready, a couple of cups of water for rinsing Syringes between concentrates bases etc. And blue tack your bottle that you are mixing in to the desk. Relax and have fun. If you can follow a rec its easy. Add nic base, pg,VG then concs etc. Shake the hell out of it. Label it and either vape or steep depending on what your mixing.

Woohoo canderwood, relax and enjoy it, the satisfaction of vaping something that you have mixed yourself is right up there with . . . something very satisfying! Don't get wound up about a few drops here of there, it will make no noticable difference whatsoever; the drop method is OK for small quantities that you will be using for a 10ml mix, but I really don't fancy counting out 15ml of VG at 30 drops/ml!!

Stu You'll be fine canderwood, there is no mystery or dark art to mixing, but a basic understanding of the components you use is helpful, along with knowing your own tastes - likes/dislikes. Have some patience is my only suggestion if you are using recipes/concentrates that require a little steeping/blending time.
