Just received a letter from Sky thanking me for my subscription, almost a £100 a month, and advising me they will unfortunately be increasing my bill by a further £4 in order for them to maintain their excellent quality and variety of service. As a result Ive decided to help them out on the variety front and cancelled movies, sports, HD and downgraded my package to the minimum. Robbing barstewards Might bin multiroom next

Greg Just done the same with Virgin Media, just another company who do not reward customers of many years. Spend most of my spare time on vaping forums, chinese vaping equipment suppliers (blame robby for that).

I think alot of it has to do with the recent Premier league rights, it went for insane money! If i wanted to watch the footy it would cost so much, i imagine well over £50 a month... I do watch the footy when i can though, but not on Sky However my team has been slightly depressing lol! I've never had Sky, always was on terrestrial of those 4 channels (Remember when it ended at midnight! ) I just have freeview box, although whenever i see the whole rewind shows, i'm like... 'whoa its like magical'

The galling thing is every item I cancelled they offer a reduction of 50% just before you confirm cancellation.

Yea, trying to tempt you to stay I really need to phone Virgin up for my net to try and get a decent retention offer by mentioning bt/sky just to make em freak out a little Hmm, i've no idea Greg! I just use a normal aerial but you might be able to. I also a really cheap freeview box where you can't record shows etc... So really couldn't advise on the type of box to get!

I had the same letter saying it was going up AGAIN!! If they offer me a cheap deal for 6 months/a year I might stay, but otherwise I've had enough. Had to get rid of Sky Sports last year as couldn't justify it when the deal I was on ended. Now Sky Sports News is the one sticking point in my house - was alright when you could still get it on Freeview but now you can't even get it on the basic package, has to be the next one up

I'm about to do the same with Sky. They overbid for Premier League Football then want to recover the cash from the subscribers. I will be contacting them to switch off Sky Sports and Movies. I have bought an Android TV Box and I am going to get that set up to do some streaming.

Times are tough in the premium tv business at the minute. Sky are having to make a lot of cuts and making a lot of people (friends) redundant. I agree its expensive and its not for everyone but the high cost of showing the best stuff is whats driving the prices up. I do think if you make the most of whats on offer like sky go and all of the on demand services then you can get your monies worth, also i think the done thing is you have to phone up once a year and threaten to leave to get the best price, its pretty sh*tty but they couldn't offer this to every customer and continue trading. Obviously giving people the product at the minimum they can is far better than losing the customer forever to another provider. From a customers point of view I can see why it is pretty frustrating to have to do this to get the best deal but sadly it is what it is.

Can you connect these free view boxes up to a sky dish and if you can what's the best boxes to get ? We only had sky so Mr K could have Sky Sports. But, as you know you have to take out a minimum package then add sports to it. We're now using the Sky box as Freesat and have BT sport on it as we are BT broadband customers. I probably wouldn't be with BT for broadband tho if it wasn't for getting BT sport free Still cheaper than Sky. I've got change out of my phone/broadband from the price we were paying Sky for their package! I'm using a BT box (free) for freeview and that enables me to record. If we MrK didn't want sport I'd just buy a freeview recorder box
