Indeed Karma . . . how I never set myself alight, dropping off to sleep with a fag on the go, I'll never know. Don't want to trivialize this poor man's injuries, but we don't know whether he was using a device sensibly or not either. yeah, or driving in heavy traffic and your lighted ciggie end flies back in the car window

Raggy (Ragjoy) had a battery explode - fortunately it was on charge in a safe place. there now in a safe place when it blew it was far from safe. BELOW IS AN EXTRACT OF THE EMAIL I SENT TO THE SELLER OF THE CHARGER ALTHOUGH TW WAS THE SELLER OF THE BATT THAT BLEW, IN THIS CASE I BELIEVE IT WAS THE CHARGER AT FAULT. SAME RESULT THOUGH AND THE SDMK2 BATTS SHOULD NOT OF BLOWN THE WAY THEY DID. xxxxxx has asked me to detail and send some photos regarding the trustfire multi charger. i received the charger and 4 x 14500 batteries from you yesterday. i proceeded with charging 2 of the 14500s, initially the charger lights were red shortly afterwards they flashed slowly then went back to red, after about an hour they started to pulse dim bright dim bright and so on, this didnt seem right so after 30 mins or so i rang xxxxx (meanwhile i had been searching the web for any reference to this, but i didnt find anything) i told xxxxx what was happening. i asked should i try other batteries and xxxxxxx said yes so thats what i did. the second 2 14500s started to flash/pulse almost straight away i left them for around 2.5 hours, at this point i phoned and left a message for xxxx on his voicemail, but didnt get a reply. at this point i took them off charge as i thought they were charged, i then placed 1 sd mk2 battery supplied by totally wicked, with this in the charger the light remained red no flashing, this i thought confirmed that the 14500 were charged, i new the sd mk2 battery to be almost flat. when the charger was charging the sd battery the bottom of the charger was quite warm whereas when it was charging and flashing with the 14500s it was cool/cold again suggesting they were fully charged. after an hour there was a crackle then a pop/bang and the charger was smoking slightly i immediately pulled the plug, picked up the charger and took into the kitchen and placed it on the sink i was looking closely at the battery it looked like it had melted the cover skin, i put it on the drainer, my wife came over and said whats that smell, we were both then looking at the charger from about 3 foot when it exploded 5 seconds earlier my face was 1 foot away. it went straight past our faces and up above the kitchen cupboards. when we came to our senses there was smoke all through the kitchen and dining room. after a few minutes i climbed onto the worktop to see where the battery went (followed the flash burns on the ceiling) i put my hand down the back of the units/extractor and there it was (couldnt see it, small gap) it was still too hot to touch 5 minutes after it exploded, i had to use a wet rag too pull it out. we then composed ourselves to some degree from the shock i believe we were in, i then took some photos (attached). the ceilings will need re painting in the kitchen and dining room. both rooms need a complete clean down, you cant see it but when you wipe anywhere there is like a black soot on everything. we have both coughed up black soot and blowing our noses also produced soot. all in all we were very lucky. now i know you (xxxx) said that ultimately the problem lays at trustfires door, well yes that is true but that will be for you too take up with them, my complaint lays with yourselves as that is where i purchased the charger. i wont be taking this up with trustfire that is for you to do. i have supplied you with some photos but i wont be sending the charger back until my issues are satisfactorily sorted out by yourselves, you are welcome too come and see it.

I'd tell her not to over react myself Karma . . . for all the reasons that we've just said.

There's no tellings at the moment what happened as lots was left unclear - he may well have been charging an unprotected battery that actually blew up as Raggy descibed happening to him - he may have been using everything normally or he may have a stacked battery mod - It's all a little too unclear as to what was going on at the time and honestly there seem to be a lot of details missing from the story - Personally i'm still sceptical of this story right now until a few more details come to light

Same here Mark, more information as to what exactly happened is definitely needed. . . I wonder if we'll get it.

My friend who got the small social smoker kit from me at the weekend, and was very impressed, has just text to say she has read this story in the paper and is very worried and thinks it's safer to go back to the nasties I read a story once about a tv exploding, I still own a tv, and a toaster, and a fridge, and a kettle.... I think you get the point lol If this was used in a perfectly, acceptable, ordinary, no added extensions way then it sounds like he was just unlucky. There are millions of batterys and battery powered devices out there and rarely do we hear of any incidents with them. It made the news because it's a rare case, if it was a common occurence it wouldn't even of been mentioned, just written off as another person who's battery blew up. It made international news because its even rarer than rare. Other wise they could of focused on the people it had happened to in their own country. I'm not saying to be reckless with your batterys and equipment by any means, treat them as carefully and cautiously as you can. Just remeber how many you come into contact with on a daily basis and how few of them go pop. I think I'll take the risk of a e-cig going pop than the risks of the "real" ciggys.

It's such a horrible tragedy I also find it hard to fathom without knowing the full details and all factual circumstances of the story. I wonder whether these details will actually emerge once the front page is turned.. I sincerely hope so.

one thing to note is 'electronic' mods eg provari, lavatube etc have built in protection its worth giving this VTTV show a watch to get a bit more information on e-cigs and batteries

Do you use a laptop? Do you leave it plugged in overnight? ....... well it has the same batteries in the battery pack as a e-cig, they are FINE if used correctly.

I noticed some companies have rushed to defend the safety of their products, such as VIP, making claims that their li-on batteries "Do not explode," and they have also said that it appears to have been a mod, but are awaiting confirmation.. To be honest, when I first read this, is was late, I was tired, and I really was unsure about using them at first. Woke up the next morning, did a bit of research, and carried on vaping on my riva, although I no longer put my hand over the 'blow out' cap at the bottom while I'm drawing on it
