ahh crap, how much is a goose kneck? lol, lets be honest this industry is not highly regulated yet, and nobody can really be sure of the safety of any Li-On battery anyway... So if this thing blows, I'd prefer to loose a few fingers, not my amazing good looks

Before panicking, I'd like to see more info about what happened. A couple of threads on ECF indicate it was a mod using stacked batteries, if so, I'll be sticking with my Riva thanks.

That's terrible, poor man!
It's put me off getting a mod, I think I'll stick to my Riva!

I would recommend to make your own mods with NiMH cells..They may be bigger, but it's very safe..
If using Li-ion use a single protected cell..
DO NOT stack them and get a decent charger by a known name like Varta or Codex..Probably cost you £5-£10 more but they'll be safe and have a long life..

Raggy (Ragjoy) had a battery explode - fortunately it was on charge in a safe place.

The thread on ECF has a letter/email from a friend that confirms this was not the same case from 4 weeks ago, and that nobody knows what he was using yet ??? ??? ???

Don't let it put you off buying a Mod Karma, until/if the full details of what this unfortunate gentleman was using are made known, it's all damaging speculation to my way of thinking . . . the press love this sort of fear story. All battery powered devices, used incorrectly have the capability to cause damage, as indeed do the mass produced chargers we use to charge them with. Unless we're all prepared to pay premium prices for such gizmo's to have a level of quality guaranteed, there's always going to be an element of risk involved IMHO.

Indeed Karma . . . how I never set myself alight, dropping off to sleep with a fag on the go, I'll never know. Don't want to trivialize this poor man's injuries, but we don't know whether he was using a device sensibly or not either.
