So whats this tagging malarky then

hello fellow vapers, as a newbie in here and to vaping im finding my feet still, ive noticed the notifications menu item and am pleased to see some of my posts have been liked by a few folk, and i have been quoted once or twice, both i understand, but also ive been tagged once or twice too? whats that ?? something good? or something Bad??

I'm new also Tia and it's just so you know someone's replied to you instead of quoting your text. At least that's what I've worked out

All good, they just reference you by typing your name with an @ in front (doesn't work if the name has been changed), clicking the bottom with a pic of an @ and a person (you get a searchable list) or holding the [Alt] key and clicking your name with the mouse like so phatfil

Tagging is a useful way of getting the attention of a fellow member. If you 'tag' someone in a post their name will appear in a highlighted colour in the post and they will receive a notification that you have tagged them along with a link to your post.

To tag someone you simply put the '@' symbol in front of their name. So to tag a member named faggy for example, you would type @faggy in your post. One thing to beware of - if a member has changed their display name tagging the new name will not work. My original forum name was onedayillquit. I have changed my display name to OneDay. Tagging @oneday will not work. To check, hover your mouse over the user's name in their mini profile and it will show their original forum name to apply the tag to.

Think of it as being in a crowded party with loads of conversations going on around you. You can't (and don't want to) listen to them all. But then someone thinks you might be interested in a particular topic, or has something to say about a comment you made earlier. They call "cooeee phatfil" and you look up at the sound of your name above the hubub and go to hear what they have to say. You've just been tagged!
