This was rushed a bit just to prove it would work okay. The tube is 4mm thin walled brass tubing available here
£3-35 including First Class Post
Take a strip of your usual cotton pad, a bit more than usual as the coil is 4mm, flatten it and round it off between your fingers, try not to introduce a twist into the strip as it probably wont wick as well. Ease it into the tubing to where you want the coil to start.
Wind your coil on the brass tubing and slide it up to the end where the cotton is. Draw both the cotton and the coil off the tubing at the same time without pressing hard. You maybe want to fluff up the cotton a little where it has been in the tube.
It needs a bit more fluffing up, but you get the idea. The coil could be tidier as well which would be done on the tubing.
2 4mm coils on my Magma working very well, loving the flavour. Still need to fiddle with it to get everything even. The colouring you see is from the juice that I use and would wash out. Not a perfect method, but not bad considering how easy it is to deform the coils when wicking up. I`ve tried the other way by winding the coil over the wick which is placed on the coil former. This seems to work better IMHO
The two coils coming in at .5 ohm each so 0.25 in parallel.

Good idea robby, I find that twisted nickel keeps if shape better and manage to re-wick the Orchid OK with 3 strand 0.16 mm twisted nickel and better flavour (I would use 2 strand but the Orchid cuts that too easily), but single strand is a challenge as you say.

Gonna try a 3 strand coil on this one with just the one coil in the atty. I`m not sure the flavour is as good on this with two coils single strand, seems a little muted in comparison for the same power setting VapingBad.

Needs a bit of vaping to bed it in, but better flavour than the twin single strand coils and maybe a little more than the single strand single coil setup, hard to say. A lot more metal to heat up so slower starting. Coming in at 0.15 ohms.

Looking good robby, do you find it a bit easier to work with the twisted?

Definitely, but seems to be slow to warm up the coil, the single strand is a lot quicker to produce vapour. 16 watts seems to have a fairly constant temp of 230/240F on the triple (when the dripper is wet), so doesn`t go anywhere near drying temp VapingBad. Must scope it and see what the waveform is like. So many variables

I need my wicks pretty tight or it can be a crappy vape and even worse with nichrome, that looks like it'd be kinda loose. I use wire from 26G to 20G and always pinched coils though which helps counteract deforming issues.

Nah, mech mods as usual, 20G nich 80, 5 wraps at 3mm diameter which is around 0.07-08 or so. Really nice vape but definitely a better vape with nice tight wicks.

Come over to the dark-side but you can't bring your 20 AWG, most of the cotton type wicks I have tried are better tight or snug, but cw ball weren't.

I had to wick them tight too, just use the jap cotton pads these days though seeing as they're so cheap anyway. I think it's just the heat. Dark side? As in regulated? Might build something yet, might spend the money on my car instead though

Gone back to the single strand 4mm diameter coil, closely wound but not tight together using the method in this thread. 16 watts, the vape is pleasantly warm, it comes up to temperature very quickly and the flavour is fantastic, no waiting for the coil to heat up. Just an all round better vape IMHO for temp control mods with nickel wire. Dont knock it till you`ve tried it ....8 wraps, 4mm, .25 nickel, coming in at 0.24 ohms. Battery life is noticeably better with this coil as well.

They should come up to temp straight away with the DNA40 pre-heat robby, my gennies with big steel wicks do and so does this Orchid build Temperature limited regulated vaping enjay with pure nickel from res wire

Just dont need it VapingBad, the set up I have is working A1, low juice costs, low battery usage, very low faff, very quick and easy set-up. The flavour and temp are excellent, best I`ve had and that includes squonking. What I am trying to say is that it gives me MY perfect vaping all round experience. I`ve tried the rest and gone back to the best (for me).

Don't need what robby? pre-heat! wash your mouth out with PG! It's awesome and still suppresses me when I back to back with a Kanthal build even one a Kayfun there is a hell of a difference in heat up time. So I never need a warm up puff, spend less time inhaling as it is instantly satisfying, take one puff where on kanthal it would be 2 and believe this saves a fair bit of liquid. Battery life is never an issue I have lots of them and I find liquid consumption is largely governed by nic strength for me, I keep it at 10 mg so automatically don't chain vape though if I go up to 40 W about 2 puffs and I'm niced out. YMMV, and I'm happy you have found the flavour (the best aspect of TC for me) I'm just sharing my thoughts on it' PS. I find if you are needing the temp over 420 F a larger coils at lower temp usually solves it and you can get loads of vapour at 400 F, just a general tip for those new to TC.
