Until Nitecore have one of each of the fakes they have no way of knowing what materials were used. This renders the magnet test irrelevant, for now.
It's always going to be a battle in favour of the fakers. As soon as one is discovered the maker will find another way around the detection. The price of having a large name, and a larger reputation - the name sells.

I think the magnet check is going to find most of them and pretty easy to do if you have a magnet, personally I would trust the capacitor check, but that`s just me. That is only for the i4 and useless for the D4. Why do you say that?

That applies to both the I4 and the D4 VapingBad, in the interest of safety and clarity, I`ve just checked it. The capacitor is also a Nitecore.

The price of having a large name, and a larger reputation - the name sells. It`s not irrelevant, the positive contact is plated copper, the slide material is plated copper and the negative contact (moving bit) is steel (because copper is easily bent). If any of your contact metals dont match up to that, you DEFINITELY have a clone.

Of course the negative contact will be steel. But it'll be steel in fakes too. The irrelevance is due to the fact that the fakers are aware of these tests, and so won't make the slide or the positive contact from steel. This is information from nearly 4 years ago. Bear in mind the number of different factories turning these fakes out. Every one will be different choice of construction and components. How will Nitecore be able to formulate a way of detecting every different construction with 100% accuracy. Also bear in mind 1:1 clones. There's a big difference between today's fakes and those of just a few years ago. ETA: The only way to beat fakes at the moment is to buy from authorized sellers. I/We buy Nitecore from AJC Trading at nitecore.co.uk

Not according to Nitecore, see my quote from their email earlier, (received today) the board may be different but you're looking for Nitecore branded caps. We cant get any more official than what Nitecore themselves say, yes I know you can re-wrap caps but I seriously doubt that the cloners would go that far (I hope)

It wont be Nitecore that will be checking them. It will be punters like you or me. The pos contact is plated copper, the slide slot is plated copper, the sliding contact is steel.

It's just shrink wrap - can be faked so easily, especially with a genuine nitecore cap as a pattern.

That`s not the point is it Ripshod? if the spelling is wrong, if any of the contact metals are wrong, if the Caps arent Nitecore. If any one of those dont match up with what you have, then it is a FAKE and unsafe and shouldn`t be used. This is about vaper`s safety, isn`t it? It`s a whole lot better than no information at all isn`t ?

It`s a whole lot better than no information at all isn`t ? Yet you could buy a fake built from the right materials, with fake nitecore wrappers on the caps, and the correct spelling on the box. It could weigh the same, within 0.1 Gramme. It could have the correct lead, with the correct plug. The point is - it's still a fake! Any non-magnetic metal would pass the magnet test for the slide and pos pin. How do we KNOW a genuine? We can't. Only Nitecore can. The only way to protect ourselves from fakes? Buy from an authorised dealer. Stop buying from FT or ebay. I could be judgemental and say 'You get what you pay for!!' and leave everyone to it, but I'm not. I'm here, now, looking for a way for us all to be 100% safe.

If JUST ONE person reads this and realises he or she has got a fake because of just one of the differences stated in this thread then it is worthwhile. I really dont see your problem Ripshod.

I'm worried for the peeps who don't spot a 'good' fake robby. I don't have a problem - Nitecore have that for me. This one fake has been proven dangerous. That doesn't make the rest of them safe.
