So am I, but that doesn`t mean that we cant give out all the info that we have in the hope that we can stop someone else buying one or worse still, getting a shock etc. Nothing we can do about a perfect one to one clone, I never said that or implied it. Really just trying to help here. I reckon the info here is enough to spot most of them, could be wrong.

Neither of us is giving bad advice, just two different views of the same problem - working towards the same goal. I hope members reading this absorb much of what we're both saying and make a wise decision based on that info. Of course they could just treat us as a couple of doddering old fools having a rant, reading back that is the way it's beginning to appear

I`m not ranting, just been trying to pass on useful safety info to do with spotting possible fake chargers, and that`s it.
Edit ....... from the info given about the clone, it`s a severe fire risk and maybe even electric shock. One of them left unsupervised while sleeping doesn`t bare thinking about. My son had a charger that went on fire and exploded the battery. Luckily, it was in the same room as he was when it happened.

The only way to protect ourselves from fakes? Buy from an authorised dealer. Stop buying from FT or ebay. The only problem I can see there is finding an authorised dealer, there are so many UK suppliers who now find they can get cheaper stuff from China and sell it on. How do we know that the D4 we buy from 'Joe Bloggs Authorised Vape Gear' shop IS genuine?? anyone can pass off fakes now, buying from a UK based company doesn't make you any safer nowadays

The only place I've bought the chargers from is AJC Trading Q. Their website is nitecore.co.uk, so that's an obvious clue? If you email Nitecore USA they'll return a list of 'authorised' sellers in the UK. These sellers would then tell you which web stores, or high street shops in your area they supply (admittedly not 100%, they're not infallible) The thing is it's human nature to go for the better deal, which isn't always the best. Unfortnately this attitude just feeds the fakers. I'm not going to crusade on this matter. The fact is it happens, it'll always happen, and we just have to let the dust settle and carry on.

While putting my Nitecore back together, realised the plastic protector on the screen was still on it, looking new again lol

So just to clarify, Neg contact is magnetic, Pos & sliders not ? My I4 seems to be fake as all metal is magnetic but all my D4s seem to stick to the rules

I've been in 2 minds as to merging this thread with Di's thread or just locking it. However, as there is a somewhat separate debate going on, I'm leaving it open & moving it to the new Recall board. Hope you don't mind robby that I've added a bit to the titles of the thread

Anybody checked their I4 from FT? I purchased mine 2 years ago from FT and the positive connections are magnetic. I may need to open this up and check that capacitor EDIT: So I've just opened it up but don't fancy taking the PCB out. I can just make out the capacitor in the nitecore guide, and it's not the same. I also can't see any Nitecore branding. Bugger.

It`s difficult to say how far back Nitecore`s statement applies to scs. Hopefully the capacitor check is okay. In that case I would trust it, been working fine for two years, but that is only MY OPINION. Feel free to ignore it.

Can you lift the RH edge a little (on your pic) scs? Mine were not all Nitecore, there was a biggish one in the middle that was though. A few screws along the edge where the springs are. No need to do more than take the screws out and lift the edge at the right of your pic (on mine anyway) I dont remember seeing any other Nitecore branding inside the charger.
