feed the wire thru the hole in the side so it pokes out the top next to the mandrel, pop the lid on and twist/turn x times + 1/2 turn to counter the springy-ness of the wire

Use thick wire, at least 0.3mm

Also don't torch the wire beforehand and don't put any downward pressure on the cap otherwise you might get overlapping.

Thank you everyone :-) I'm getting pretty good at making coils on a drill bit but the Mr is new to all this so I thought it might help him when I'm not about to do it for him lol

I use my coiler for touching coils or spaced coils collie2011. Easier to make spaced ones on the coiler than a drill bit.

collie2011 a little tip, do 1 extra wrap, gently ease the coil off the former, turn it around and slide it back on. This will leave the untidy end on the outer part of the former. Unwrap that first untidy wrap and then grip the the coil on the former and pull down firmly with a pair of pliers. This will give you a really firmly wrapped microcoil.

I find that the Kurocoiler works best with .32 wire or larger - any thinner and it tends to overlap and make a complete dogs dinner of it. It works a treat with twisted coils though!

I use 0.25 Kanthal no problem on the Kuro, just don't put any inward pressure on the cap when winding. Might take a couple of tries to get it right the first time, but after that it should be no bother.
