Hi everyone!
Saw this forum on MSE and browsed it, looks really positive and helpfull, need help so here I am!
I have been smoking since about the age of 11 and am now 50, I have given up a couple of times first for 3 years and then a year but started again and seemed to find myself smoking more and more each time I start again! Catching up for lost time I suppose!! The truth is I mostly enjoy smoking, and I know that unlike many things fags will be there for me if I need them, they are trusworthy and can't argue! But I really need to give up tobacco! horrible wheezy chest and a family who needs thier dad around for a bit longer! I thought it would be quite easy, I have tried gum, lozenges and patches but missed the throat hit. I smoke minutes after getting up and do between 20 and thirty strong cigarettes a day. I want to be completely clear of having to depend on nicotine eventually...but not just yet!! Can anyone who has had a similar smoking habit to me advise me what the most suitable product may be of use to me please?
Thank You
Burrowsatwill

Hi Burrowsatwill & glad you made it over from MSE. You're about my age ans I am a ex 20 a day smoker. I would recommend for you the Riva 1100 mAh kit with Cartomisers to begin with: www.vapeescape.co.uk/the-riva-1100-deluxe-kit~151If you use code 'allabout' you'll get 10% off! Or you can also buid your own kit here : vapourhut.com/e-cigarette%20kit/VH-BuilderYou will need to get some e-juice, we have loads of great juice vendors, have a look in the suppliers section, some do sample kits, i'd recommend you get a few samples to try first. I'd also recomend a drip tip, it just feels nicer in the mouth than a "tail pipe" Have a look then come back and ask your questions, no matter how trivial they may seem, we're here to help you

Hi Burrows and welcome
I'm quite new too, but just to add, there is a 10% discount code for the vapourhut too, it's 'hut10'
I got the kit from vapeescape, Jason was kind enough to switch the attomisers and cartridges for the all in one 'cartomisers' for me and I'm very happy with it so far, although I want to upgrade to variable voltage now.
Happy vaping.

Hello and welcome Burrowsatwill, i really wanted to give up smoking mainly due to my health and the cost of them. Trouble was i really enjoyed smoking. I had tried all the usual things like gum, patches etc nothing worked for me. Once i started on the ecigs i knew i could finally kick that nasty habit into touch It took me a couple of months of vaping and smoking but i got there in the end, others have given up straight away using the ecig. So now all you have to do is pick the right e-cig for you and get it ordered, good luck

Hi and welcome, I was exactly liked you, it was the one thing I felt I was in control of in my life - of course they controlled me but its not how you feel when you are using them. I never wanted to stop but I knew family wanted me to and also that one day health problems would kick in from it so I bought a lookalike thinking maybe I would cut down a bit and for me the one I chose was perfect I used it and never touched another real one again. I do think it is down to finding something that at the first will replace a real one fully - vapour, taste, how it feels in your hand. I will be honest if I had gone straight onto a Riva I would never have given up as it is not like a real nastie but after just two weeks using my lookalike and then finding this forum I realised I was ready to move away from the lookalike and now had the Riva two weeks and love it, but I still I admit when I really get a bad craving for a nastie use my lookalike, its satifys me then when the Riva won't nor my little SD Keyring ( great for out and you want a stealth e-cig). I am hoping as time goes on I will want to use my lookalike less and less but admit its the taste of it, its for me, the nearest to tobacco I have found so far.
So my personal advice is find an e-cig that works as a substitute and if you are as lucky as me you will find one that you find gives you the exact same pleasure as a nastie does.
Good Luck

Hi burrowsatwill and welcome to AAE-C. i didnt want to give up ciggys but felt i should due to the health issues and the ever increasing costs. so i looked into e-cigs as i could still 'smoke' but something that was healthier
to my amazement i found that over the first couple of days i reduced down to only 4 ciggys ...i couldn't believe it.... then after a while i found i enjoyed the flavour and greater vapour that the e-cig gave me while the ciggys tasted ever more yucky and stinky.
it really was SOOOOO easy with the right kit ....the recommendations my peers have suggested are great and will be ideal for a heavyish smoker ...good luck

Hello and welcome! I liked smoking but knew that I needed to cut down/stop. After a few weeks, just like Gordy, I found that I prefered my e-cig! The riva is a good battery with decent staying power, i'm sure you will not be disappointed

Hi Burrowsatwill and welcome from me - join the Riva club - many of us found that a good starting point! I suggest LR cartomisers - they will give you more of a hit. You just have to find juice you like - many vendors do sample sizes to try.

Hi !
I started vaping as an attempt to reduce my smoking. I had never seriously tried to quit before.
After tinkering around and getting the nicotine level right, juice flavour right and equipment right without much conscious thought I just stopped smoking.
Vaping satisfies me more than smoking did. Made it a redundant process as I was getting the nicotine I am addicted to in a more pleasurable way.
There was no withdrawal. No pangs. No hassles. When I got my Ego I went from 20+ a day for 30+ years to 1 or 2. Took a few weeks to get the nic right and stopped.
Some far cleverer than me and managed to get it right immediately and stopped or more likely wanted to stop smoking. Ermm truth to tell I didn't. I liked, strike that, loved smoking but last week stole a cig off my wife and put it out after a few drags as it was just kinda bland compared to my juice.
This is just my experience. Everyone is different. I suspect I would have gone down this route far earlier if I hadn't of moved over here as cigs are 2.90 Sterling a pack. No pound sign on the keyboard.
