I'm starting 23 liters of Home Brew Cider this weekend and need some empty bottles to put it in ideally 1 litre or 500ml bottles that must be able to stand some pressure. I've looked online and the prices to get new one's are (like 50p each) I don't drink enough pop to get enough empties for around 8 days when my brew will be ready to decant out of the fermentation vessel into bottles. Any suggestions?

pet bottles that have had something fizzy in em work wonders, 500ml-2l expop bottles work a treat, if really stuck pop into tesco and pick up 2l semi filtered tap water in 2l pet bottles for circa 20p each..(1l tonic/soda bottles for circa 30p each full) the l-2l bottles are fine as long as they are decanted in one so a big jug is useful come serving, pouring out a pint and tipping back up is guaranteed to disturb the sediment and by the time its settled back down the loss of condition (fiz) due to the Pint sized headroom may not be the best for the taste.. and the o2 you let in can also oxidise the beer/cider.. If using cheapo water bottles ensure you get the ones that look like fizzy pop bottles they will be ok upto 99psi.. even if flimsy, while the ridged ribbed evian type wont be any good and wont hold any pressure.. also check local boozers for empties, some will be returned to the source but others are just sent for recycling.. 3 x grolsh flip tops for a fiver from asda are worth buying if you like lager as you get the lager free when you compare to the cost of new home brew flip top bottles.. another benefit of using 2l pop bottles is the cleaning/rinsing/sanitising/rinsing job with 10-12 2l bottles is a lot quicker than 40 odd pint bottles happy brewing dare i mention corny kegs

Unfortunately they are 2 litre bottles, I have already looked at those and as I said in my OP I really want 1 litre or 500ml bottles. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Corny kegs, I'm afraid you've lost me, this is my FIRST attempt at Home Brew after being recommended this kit by Dave Dorn on Vaper Trails TV.

I was after wine bottles a few years ago. I left a couple of empty boxes and a note at the bottle bank. Came back to find my boxes were full My local tescos has a bottle bank, tho the tops of the bottle bins are often left open

sorry DiscoDes corny kegs are Stainless steel 19-25l kegs initially used by the likes of cocacola for distributing their syrup and co-opted by homebrewers for beer you also need temp control, co2, and taps to use em tho If it takes you a week or two to collect the bottles the cider will sit comfortably in its FV (fermentation vessel) without any problems, its only if you leave it sat on the yeast sediment for months and months that you may experience autolysis off flavours. and then its a nominal risk.. So no need to panic, just collect the bottles asap and bottle when your ready.. It would not be a good idea to bottle some and leave the rest till you have more bottles as this will provide more opportunity for something nasty to get in and ruin the whole batch. While 02 was your friend at the start of the fermentation, at the end its not and you need to minimise contact with air and 02 ... happy brewing and even happier suppin

Why not collect some glass 500ml bottles and get a crown capper? Okay you need to buy the capper but the bottles will be free.

DiscoDes I normally use pressure kegs, but on the few times I bottle I use 500ml sparkling water bottles.
