wont heating the coil to cherry red to check the coil for a good burn and no hotspots just soften it anyway? and softer should be less springy more malleable and easier to shape/coil without springing back out of shape off the mandrel??

well we both are ...just difference of opinion and experiences and which way you look at it (i definitely prefer tempered and when asking around some time a go alot of people recommended it over annealed ).. what phatfil says is still correct its down to what you pefer/are used to .im sure VapingBad will be able to tell you the benefits of each ...

I've never used tempered as I have plenty of annealed and am quite happy with that, but many people fine the tempered easier because it is more like Kanthal to use.

Get the tempered if you are threading cotton wick Q. Get annealed if you are wrapping a rayon wick.

I found that twisting Ni made it quite easy to wick without distorting the coil too much.
