Ok! I have what I think is a really stupid question! being lazy and the price I can get them from F/T I buy pre-made coils, but they come with the legs hanging down, so to use them I have adjust the legs so they stick out, sometimes I unwind them a bit sometimes I wind them on a bit, if that makes sense? I check the ohms of them and neither way seems to make a difference to the reading, but here's the stupid question! is there a right or wrong way to adjust them????

The resistance will be determined by the length of wire rather than how many coils, so as long as the wire length stays the same you can do as you wish. If you cut down the coil you will vary the resistance by a little bit. I use pre coiled ones and fit them as suited to the atty, by bending the legs . I probably have to trim off about a few millimeters on each leg to tidy them up.

Unwrapping with reduce the resistance and wrapping will increase it. But if your using say 0.5ohm coils and your ohm meter or mod only reads to one decimal place it's possible you won't see the change as its so small.

No it won't. As Bobsbeer says, the resistance is determined by the length of the wire, only the surface area of the coil in contact with the wick will be altered by the number of turns in this case, ie. pre made coils.

If you're using the NR-R-NR coils then trimming the legs will make no real difference to the overall resistance. Also with NR-R-NR best to wind a little bit more just so you don't have any heated wire in mid-air not doing nothing other than waste power.

Well I think you're wrong but I guess it depends on interpretation of the question. I realise NR has been thrown into the equation but that isn't in the OP. I believe the pre made being bought in the OP have both legs pointing down and these won't fit in say a sub tank as the legs need to 180 degrees apart. To achieve this the cool has to be unwrapped by half a turn or wrapped an extra half a turn and therefore the length will increase or decrease depending on option chosen. If length changes then resistance changes, simples. Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stuck !

The resistance will not change unless the length of the wire changes. Even if you unwound the whole coil and ended up with a straight(ish) piece of wire, the resistance should remain the same. So..... I think you're wrong

Thanks for all the Info folks! I just knew it wouldn't be that simple so let me clarifie things a bit, on my atties I've been using the NR-R-NR pre-made coils, so if I have this right it should make none or very little difference, as it's the length that counts (keep it clean) and is the reason pre-mades come with different length of legs, (didn't even think about that) but I've just ordered a Kanger subox mini from F/T and as I've heard such good things about twisted coils I thought I'd try these Coils presuming these are the right ones, so my thinking was as long as I keep the wraps the same count it won't make a difference if I bend the legs a little, as I can't seem to find any pre-mades that I don't have to bend, it's my first venture into Sub Ohms so I want to get it right and not blow my head off, , any advice on the best set up fot the Subox will be welcomed, Mowjo,,,

Look what u started mowjo one observation i have made is if 'unwrapping' a coil leg to position it, if the reshaping results in a wider arc of the last wrap it can then become a hot spot which could give you a dry hit taste .. so i would err on the side of caution and overwrap to line up.. a cheap £2 Fastteck coil madrel is useful to maintain the coil shape while modding it to fit your atty..

As long as you have good batteries the subox should take care of any possible shorts and safety issues generally, I think the sub box will only fire coils above 0.2ohms and I'd assume most pre made ones should be above that or maybe it fires down to 0.1, ether way just get it installed with the legs not wiggling at all so the ohms will be stable and the coil centered above the air hole but not touching any parts of the head, then just the wicking which needs to be not too tight but not too loose either and not stuffing the juice channel/juice hole too much or the vape will taste a bit dry.

Thanks again folks, when I adjust coils I tend to use drill bits of the right size, but I have noticed the coil keeps it's shape better if I over wrap it, so far the only atties I have that I can wick right and get no leaks are my Taifun GT2 clones, I've watched so many Vids on wicking I should be and expert, the odd thing I noticed is that with my two GT2's is I have to wick them differently one seems to need less wick than the other, strange as the are identical, I guess it's just a matter of messing about until you get it right,,

I agree same length of wire, same resistance. Reality is though if you unwrap or wrap the length will change in the same atty unless you position the cool higher or lower to compensate. I wouldn't like to wick your totally unwound cool though.

I wouldn't like to wick your totally unwound cool though. That was really my point. Just wrapping or unwrapping the coil to adjust the leg position will not change the resistance of the coil in total. I will agree that the positioning of the coil in the connection points ie where the screws fastens the wire may change the length of the wire in use which alters the resistance. That would be the same situation with any normal resistance coil though, even if the legs did not need wrapped/unwrapped for position in the screws, unless you bought coils with the exact leg length needed.

True but my point was if you have two have two identical premade coils and you unwrap half a turn on one and add half a wrap on the other then fit each to the same atty in turn the former will register less resistance than the latter which I believe is what the OP was asking. The reality is in the real world less or more wraps will change the length of the coil wire once fitted in an atty

but here's the stupid question! is there a right or wrong way to adjust them???? Mowjo,,,, No is the short answer . . . . I buy all my ready coils from FT and as long as they work with however I've tinkered or not with them - then I'm a happy vaper mowjo.
