I'm absolutely aghast at the level of support for e cigs by PHE. It is nearly eye watering how supportive they have become. Have a read of this from them today. I'm glad common sense if finally prevailing in the UK at least. How the government will respond in terms of the EU regulations has to be in question now. Lets hope the TW challenge throws it out so sensible regulation can be put in place. www.gov.uk/government/news/e-cigarettes-an-emerging-public-health-consensus

It's sickening how they have changed their minds and are now setting themselves up as the saviours of quitting smoking. I'm going to throw something out there and say that they have changed their minds due to the impending legislation. They will have the responsibility of handing out the e-cigarettes that are prescribed and can't exactly be against them like they were.
Just a couple of other things:
"We know that e-cigarettes are the most popular quitting tool in the country with more than 10 times as many people using them than using local stop smoking services. But, we also know that using local stop smoking services is by far the most effective way to quit."
Gives it away a bit - they know that people aren't using the stop smoking services and that they are turning to e-cigarettes instead. What better way to prop up the poor stop smoking services than by handing out the most effective cessation devices on the market and thus still claiming that the service is brilliant at helping people quit. Also if 10 times more people are using e-cigarettes to quit smoking rather than the stop smoking services, and they don't hand them out, it begs the question, what is the point of these services?
"The current national evidence is that in the UK regular e-cigarette use is almost exclusively confined to those young people who smoke, and youth smoking prevalence is continuing to fall. "
This is complete crap and the fact that there is no reference cited only adds to it. You cannot accurately predict the number of youth that would have smoked had they not decided to or used e-cigarettes instead.
And best of all..........
"We know that smoking is the number one killer in England"
Not only is this complete rubbish, cancer is the number one killer in the UK not smoking but the fact that deaths from cancer have hardly dropped over the past three decades even though the numbers of smokers have declined has led experts to not stick their necks out on the issue. These stable number of deaths from cancer are widely attributed to people living longer rather than one specific cause. (Widely cited from reputable sources.)
/end rant.

I'm sure there is an underlying reason for their change of heart. Motives aside, their stance is a refreshing change to what seems to be coming from the other side of the pond. Personally I don't care about their reasons for the support, the support is what matters. They are not exactly a minor player in the public health world. Another article from the BMJ has to resort to out of date reports and citations from other well known truth fabricators to make their case. Even they seem to be changing position, without wanting to lose face, or funding from big P. Another good read HERE

I'm an old cynic and i don't put much stock in the government taking the slightest bit of interest in listening to PHE or any public opinion either. They're simply not interested in scientific data or facts and the only opinions that count are monied interests and large lobbyist groups.
These are the same people remember that hired Professor David Nutt to do a comprehensive report on the dangers of controlled substances and when his data showed virtually all illegal drugs were safer than alcohol they binned the report and fined him. These people don't work by scientific realities they work by personal ideology and the ideology of those that hold influence and money.

Wish they'd tell Mark Drakeford and Public Health Wales as they have taken a very different stance

It's an urban myth which many people fell for. And still do it seems.
