Just sat wondering...do new people initially expect to much from e-cigs? I think it's made worse by the rubbish that magazines & shops sell.
I rekon people just think you buy one kit & that's it. They don't seem to factor in that all parts of an e-cig are disposable & you have to buy more on a pretty regular basis.
In my experience of discussing e-cigs with newbies, they get a big shock when you advise them that you don't just buy a starter kit & that's it. It's actually put people off buying an e-cig as they can't be bothered with the "faff" on. So, they stick with analogs instead.
Also, I know people who out rightly refuse to even try an e-cig because it dosen't look like a normal ciggie, & they would feel embarrased to use one because it.
They can't even comprehend how much cheaper e-cigs are then smoking in the long term. Because some kits are quite pricey & you still have to buy more bits, they can't seem to get the head around the potential savings that vaping brings.

In a word, Hissie, yes! Comments like 'omg how much have you spent!' answer.......... not as much as if I were buying ciggies 'omg, what if it blows up in your face, aren't they dangerous?'......... aren't ciggies dangerous? 'couldn't be bothered with the faf'........... at least I don't have to trail outside in the wind and the rain! 'how do you know e-liquid is safe?'..................... I don't, but I don't expect the vendors to try to kill me, it would be bad for business! 'that looks stupid!'................... Grrrrr >

Alternatives ! Comments like 'omg how much have you spent!' answer.......... If you've got it, flaunt it, oh, you can't, still smoking those smelly old cancer sticks then? 'omg, what if it blows up in your face, aren't they dangerous?'......... Does your phone/camera blow up each time you hold it up to take a picture or use? 'couldn't be bothered with the faf'........... No faff, 6ML tank and I sit on my arse nice and warm all day with no need to even remove from my mouth! 'how do you know e-liquid is safe?'..................... Nicotine and PG/VG, you go google it and come and tell me if it's safe or not. 'that looks stupid!'................... SMACK

Fair enough, ecigs can be quite costly when your first start. However, once you get started, it can be as costly or cheap as you want it to be. For instance, I rarely try out new accessories or juices because I can't afford to take the risk. Although after saying that, I have branched out slighty in the group order & buying a Lava Tube. Go me

People just don't like the faff, especially when the first start. The biggest selling cartomiser out of the shop isn't Boge or Kanger, it's the prefilled SDK Carto's together with either the SDK or the Innokin AIO (ciggy like). But, if it get's them started then so be it

I think sometimes it's just that people don't want to know as they are quite happy smoking! Since my last failed quit attempt I've felt terrible about smoking so I was open to trying something new and once I realised that it could work for me I didn't mind spending a little money to try to improve the experience and to make sure I had plenty back ups

I think alot of the problem is that some of the stuff sold just.doesn't.work. It just doesn't! At one point I was so frustrated at whatever I was buying, didn't do what it was supposed to, I considered packing it in entirely. The only thing that stopped me was the thought of smoking again. So I persevered and found something that worked for me.
How much money I've spent on junk, I don't like to think about.

I got into vaping after about 6 months without ciggies.
Quite a number of years ago, I had to quit smoking as I just couldn't afford it. Was miserable for ages because I really didn't want to quit.
So, I started again a few years later, but my other half was constantly on at me to quit as he really didn't like me smoking. I quit again, under serious duress & once again I was totally miserable because I really enjoyed smoking.
Then, on the MSE forum, I spotted the e-cig thread & it was a revelation of massive proportions. If I vaped, my OH couldn't moan about the smell or the cost of buying ciggies.
The cost of vaping never entered my head as I just wanted the feeling of smoking. I can't describe the elation I felt when I started vaping for the first time & I have never looked back.
I really don't care what I look like when I'm vaping. I'm not a conventional person as it is, so having an e-cig wasn't going to make me look even more unconventional lol.

Womble...I think part of the problem with buying kit that dosen't work, is due to new vapers jumping in at the deep end as opposed to starting on easy kits & working their way up. They seem to want to run before they can work in some cases.
I started out with a very basic Riva kit from liberty flights. I had the atomisers, cartridges & the blue foam stuff. Looking back I'm glad of the faff on because it has shown me what to buy & what to avoid. I also recognize when the filling has gotten too dry ect.
I always advise new people to visit this forum as explaining it in person can make new people confused.

They seem to want to run before they can work in some cases. Partly, but when you buy something which says "just fill and vape" you expect it to. Not for them to forget to mention the leaks, the dry hits, the stopping working completely, the moisture build up after a few vapes which makes it impossible to use. Basic stuff, don't they ever test any of this stuff? > I'm just annoyed after a bad days vaping yesterday don't take any notice of my rants

We all have bad vaping days unfortunatly. I just think it's nature of the beast.
Nothing easier than taking a ciggie out of the packet & lighting up. Unless of cause it's really windy & then it's a bloody nightmare lol.

Part of the problem is a lot of this vaping stuff doesn't really come with clear instructions. I'm not sure if I would have got on so well with vaping without the help of this forum

Well I think it's more important than the e-cig to join a forum like this. I don't think any of us would have survived without it.
Chrissie is certainly responsible for our happy vaping experiences.
