Already done Nick. what type of ram do you have ? how old is it ? and when you get into bios (normally hold down delete key or f2 during post) is your mobo showing the same size and type of ram that the stickers on the side of it show ? it could be bad ram it could be bad cpu or dodgy fsb setting (bad powersuply & or bad mobo) using a torch to give good light look around all the capacitors on the mobo and see if any of them are distorted perforated or there is any ooze /liquid /residue build up around any of them, bad capacitors will quickly lead to bad everything else... I had the exact same problem on an asus mobo about 3 years ago and it was down to a bad capacitor (deformed top) rma'd that sucker and its been fine ever since (that depends on who its made by and how long they offer, at the time mine was nearly 3 years old but had a 5 year parts warrenty) It is ddr3 ram and here are some pictures.

Are you using a ps2 or USB keyboard? Your bios may have disabled USB on startup for some reason. Try a PS2 keyboard if possible. Using a usb keyboard. It is all i have I seem to recall from somewhere, that the f keys on a USB keyboard won't work until it has booted up properly, although I could be imagining it..............strange things go on in my mind. If those RAM modules were working before ok, then they must be suitable for the MB..........but that can be checked, by googling the manual for your MB "Life...........is just a bowl of tricks!!!!!!"

After unplugging and re plugging everything in and out inside pc it boots up now and i get the motherboard boot screen and then dies so guessing it is windows that is the problem now. CC is bringing home her wired keyboard and mouse to see if i can get into the boot menu and see what happens.

because there old generation ballistic sport sticks and not been made for a few years, chances are there's nothing wrong with the ram, but the important bits from it are the fact its 8gb 1333mhz ram speed with cl 9.9.9.24 and the bios readout should say so (that might be a combined kit size though rather than individual stick size) edit your google chee is weak youngling see here there 8gb individuals sticks /

the above behaviour - booting-halting/crashing may be indicitive of a h/w fault, has the base unit taken any kicks or knocks? if so something may? have been shocked loose??? you could try opening the case, leaving the 240v mains cable plugged in BUT TURNED OFF AT THE SOCKET before grabbing a metal rail of the case in one hand to earth yourself and apply a little pressure to all cards, ram modules, and ribbon cables/disk cables and all the molex power connectors one by one to ensure they are all connected and making good contact. retry powering up and listen for any beeps.. if you get any note down any pattern ( 1 long rapid on off, etc.. ) then if more than 1 ram module is present , try removing one (populate from bank/slot 0 up) to eliminate a disk error, you can simply unplug the disks power the puter should boot and hang indicatin a missing disk/boot partition error though you may need to enter the bios to make the boot 'noisy' or not quiet (its been a while ,,)

I had similar on a home build PC a good few years ago now, ended up a clean install and everything was hanky dory after. Seems it was a virus at the time.
I am not sure on recent pc's/ laptops but normally they won't boot with no ram in the sockets, you would normally just hear beeps trying to warn you there's an issue with the ram.
Infact all the years I have spent tinkering with motherboards etc, i have never had bad ram, most were hard drive faults, motherboard once, or ram / video graphics card not seated properly.
Hope some of that helps
