Why not just find a friend with the same OS as you create a boot disk/flash drive and boot from that? should take you into the BIOS where you can either do a system restore or a reset.....it worked for me.

sorry i misunderstood earlier i thought the reference to the gigabyte screen was the bios interface, and you had progressed further.
drives attached or unattached it starts flashes the startup screen labled 'Gigabyte' then black screen with arrow..
No beeps?
do you notice the Ram counting up as its checked
you can perhaps halt the process and hold the gigabyte screen with a ctrl + pause/break
i should list details of the system its encountered at start up inc disks, and keyboard etc....

did you look over the mobo with the torch for out of shape capacitors ?
if you spot any (probably close to the back panel connectors) you can save yourself the money the shop will charge to look at it and just order a new mobo, in fact if you spot some and then tell us the details I can probably find the same one online and give you a link to it, or certainly to a suitable replacement.
unless you start talking to the relative who ordered and built the system for you and find out if you can get it replaced for free via RMA, problem is unless you bought it you cant actually do that /

I would love to offer to help you out but I couldn't do anything till Monday, twins bday tomorrow and I'm still making their cake, and sunday is the town fair /market thing, what version of windows are you running? I have a w10 upgrade usb boot disc if that's any use to you, or I could probably do something that would make it useful oh and being disabled and no wheels you'd have to bring it here if you were interested

OK. On the gigabyte boot screen do you have a mainboard model name/number. Gigabyte mainboards usually have duel BIOS, one of which is used as aback up. I'm thinking you have a fault on the board and a setting in the bios (halt on keyboard errors) is kicking in), or a corrupt bios. Also in case you havent make sure a dongle for the IR keyboard is removed. forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=12165.0 This link is for a different MB but should also work for your MB providing it has duel BIOS.

Can't offer any technical help Roscopecotrain , but couldn't you kill two birds with one stone, and talk to your brother and get both problems sorted before Chrimbo? Obviously I don't know the circumstances, but life's far too short for sibling animosity. Sorry if this is an unwelcome personal intrusion... just a thought... a good excuse for 'rebuilding bridges'. PS I'll delete this post if you consider it inappropriate.

There should be. Usually on the second line of text. You may have to go the screen where you have the option to enter Bios setup which you mentioned earlier. Would say somthing like GA-MA790
