Pulse width modulation Pulse width modulation (PWM) is a fancy term for describing a type of digital signal. Pulse width modulation is used in a variety of applications including sophisticated control circuitry. A common way we use them here at SparkFun is to control dimming of RGB LEDs or to control the direction of a servo motor.

PWM in a mod is generally pants, on/off square wave rather than a nice steadying dc signal.
Remember how harsh the istick 20 Watters were.

I have pmw mods and constant voltage mods. I can't say I notice any difference in vape. They need never have been made though. When they first came out they were up to 15W. Buck circuits are cheaper than boost, so they probably would have been better to make voltage drop mods and lower resistance coils.
