I'm slightly younger than you phatfil and I have had cataracts done in both eyes a couple of years apart. You'll be fine I found the most irritating part was wearing the plastic eye shield at night which needs to be sticky taped to your face so you don't accidentally rub your eyes in your sleep. My vision improved dramatically - for the first time in my life I was able to see and drive without glasses or contact lenses. I am currently waiting for a very minor laser zap as my lenses have fogged up a bit which happens in a small number of cases so its like having the cataracts back again but thats apparently a 5 min in and out job and easily sorted.

good luck mate. it sure will make a difference. sadly didnt work for me when i was 23 and now blind in one eye ever since but that was down to a retinal nerve issue.
mum who is 90 had both hers done in the last 2 years and she now has perfect eyesight. the amount of glasses over the years weve found in draws and she doesnt need any of them.

Had both mine done about three years ago, when I was 45 I had the fast growing type, that grow from the centre of the lens 30% vision in my good eye I found the worst part of the operation was my own fear levels Two family members were ready to rugby tackle me down if I had any idea about trying to use the exit door Get past the fear, sit back and let them do it In two weeks, once your past the dry eye, the fart and dash drops in your eye and you will have one of the best changes in your life It took me six months to grow the balls for my second eye operation So glad I caved in to my family calling me a wimp along with the members of another hobby forum I use Best thing I have ever had done, you wont regret it Half an hour of pointless fear and you will have a fantastic reward

Thanks all, It was brilliant to come home and find so many friendly notes.. am back typing one eyed, am having a little trouble with keys in keyholes (i aim 3 inches wide of the mark) and i spilt the milk making a cuppa for my lift home.. When you get back I want a how to page on how to stealth vape on 50:50 LOL phatfil Mini puffs and double inhaling.. by which i mean rather than blow out take a second breath in any vapour escaping will be minimal.. managed quite well till the recovery lounge where i thought i was alone til from the corner a woman with her elderly mam said " i told you he was having a sneaky V ", All good hearted It was a 4 and a half hours wait for tke procedure, i was starting to get grumpy.. But have been grinning wide since the scraping was over ... Bad news is my left eye is clouding up quickly now too ho hum..

phatfil ... I did see the title last night, but because of the eyeball/knife reference I was too scared to open the thread, I'm a real coward regarding eyes, couldn't even consider contact lenses. But seeing as you've posted again I thought it safe to take a peep, and so glad it has gone well and if the other eye needs treating at least you know the procedure. Glad you're home
