I need some batteries for myself & a friend & was hoping someone could advise on which would be the best batteries to buy for what we need. They would always be used in regulated mods like vaporshark DNA40, Evic mini & the new joyetech cuboid 150w
I (in my limited knowledge on batteries) have narrowed it down to these two on the merits of performance & price
LG HE2 18650 2500MAH 35A ($4.99ea) SAMSUNG INR18650-25R 2500mAh 30A ($4.63ea)
These are the other batteries Ive ruled out, but if I'm wrong & one of them is better please tell me ! (I ruled out the sony's because they're just too pricey & we're not sub-ohm junkies ;-) )
LG HG2 18650 LiMn 3000mAh ($5.49ea) Samsung ICR18650-30B 3000mAh ($4.19ea) Samsung ICR18650-28A 2800mAh ($4.99ea) SONY 18650 VTC5 ($7.71ea) Sony 18650 VTC4 ($6.19ea)
Thanks

Both are good I like Samsung as found the LG seem to flatten quicker, but that just my personal preference, plus the sony vtc5 are great if they are genuine

Just to let you know both the Samsung 25r and the LG-HE2 are 20A continuous discharge rated. The continuous discharge rating is the important one, not the pulse discharge rating.
The LG-HG2 brown is also 20A continuous.
As you're not building super low and using high watts all 3 should be suitable for the job.
Never use ICR batteries.

I've had VTC5's since the beginning when they really were the best batteries for unregulated tube mods and they are still going. The same can be said for the Samsungs but they aren't as old. TBH i don't even go looking for "genuine" VTC5's these days and just buy the 25R's. It's worth noting that the old 25R's were a sky blue colour but the newer ones are the same colour as the Sony's. Just make sure that you get them from a reputable source and you should be ok. Are the Sonys's worth an extra $3 each? Probably not.

Sony VTC5 have a continuous discharge of 30amps Ahhhhh....so for what we want (to use in regulated mods) the samsungs should be fine then ? Thanks Sarin, I know sony prob make one of the best batteries money can buy, but I just thought they'd be a bit excessive for what we need. Never use ICR batteries....dr00g ?.....thanks thats handy to know, Although I wouldnt have a clue why (but im guessing its something to do with what theyre made from?)

markus spot on the battery chemistry is the the type that will go up in flames when they fail rather than just venting hot gas among other problems.

You don't hold the switch till the battery is flat, you only hold it maybe 3/4 seconds which is pulse.

As far as i know there is no industry standard for how different manufacturers calculate the pulse rating for the specs advertised so it's just safer to stay under the max continuous rating. One manufacturer might calculate a safe 1 second pulse and another might calculate a safe 3 second pulse. You're right though chances are you're probably not going to end up with a venting battery if you go beyond the max continuous rating but under the max pulse rating but why gamble? Not going to do a lot of good for your battery health either even if it doesn't end up venting.

Sony VTC5 have a continuous discharge of 30amps No they don't. As tested by Mooch on ECR. There are no 30A continuous discharge batteries. Some are safer than others when they exceed their specs and can be used at higher amp limits but you risk damaging the battery or reducing it's life if you do it a lot. In a regulated mod your safe using Samsung 30q's or the LG HG2 both at 3000 mah, might get you a bit more vape time. I use 30 Q's in an Evic Mini and an iPV D2 with no issues, they are a decent battery. Sony VTC5 are good batteries as are LG HE4's and the Samsung 25r's. Your not going to overstress a decent battery as listed in any of the mods you listed as long as you start with something decent in the first place. VTC4’s handle the higher amp requirements of some builds up to 30amps. Having used 30q's VTC5 LE4’s in regulated mods including and rDNA40 for quite a while now all I can say is The difference between all the batteries is quite minimal. You only need to worry about amp limits if you are using mechanical/unregulated mods or regulated mods that will do very high wattage. I recommend you check out Mooch on the Electronic Cigarette Forum for details of some real battery testing and the opinion of someone who tests batteries for a living.

I have 3 pairs of the Samsung 25rs and they are still performing really well. One pair is used in my single-cell Sigelei 75w, the other two pairs in my Koopor and X Cube, and they have been married since I bought them, so no worries there. I will be investing in a 'spare' set at some point, and will probably go for the Samsungs again as they have worked well for me so far
