Seriously i need to know, i've hard shorted an IMR before and easily noticed the mod getting hot and managed to unscrew the battery cap and drop the battery out before it vented, what kind of batteries are they using that blow up without any notice? www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/calgary/alberta-father-calls-for-ban-on-e-cigarettes-1.3423099Nice of the Dad to call for a ban after his 16 year old kid did this but never thought to say anything to his son before.

nanotm From what i can gather they don't have a legal age restriction on gear only on juice although the shop he supposedly got it from has a policy of selling to over 18's only. The story sounds like the kid was in the car with his old man when it blew so it's not like his old man was unaware that he had the thing before it happened.

Mech mod with no battery sense is never a good combo and I can almost guarantee a 16 year old never even thought about battery type nor safety sad when stories like these hit the news I feel sorry for the boy his injuries look painful but I do think there should be more info with devices.

it transpires from reading around a bit that his brother posted on facebook the kid got a family member to purchase the gear for him and he was using an Atlantis tank on the mec mod with re-wrapped icr batts having stripped the fuse layers out of each end ........ and yes pretty muc hall the b&m stores across canda refuse to sell to anyone under 18 and often refuse adults who nip in with an under 18 in toe (based on anecdotal evidence of the outraged parents postings on the matter) nic juice was federally mandated to over 18's sale only nearly a year ago the equipment is similarly legislated against in the majority of individual states but no amount of legislation will prevent stupidity, and it seems the haples wonders featured in this story are now pushing for all none enclosed mods to be banned from sale so nobody else can use the wrogn type of battery in one and suffer in the same way, totally missing the point that when your phone's battery explodes its no different ....

I bet the muppet used the hybrid cap instead of the 510 cap too.

I bet the muppet used the hybrid cap instead of the 510 cap too. you know whats worse aside from some flames that burnt his facial hair and a a bit of soot fro mthe exploding battery the biggest bit of damamge on his face looks like a nasty cut where the atty rocketed into his grid, so either this photo of the kid in question is faked or him and his dad are gong to die from a nasty dose of lithium dioxide and other associated nasties being in their lungs in the enclosed space of a car .... ive seen worse "burnt" looking skin from rattling a few thousand rounds down range without the suggested face guard being worn, thank god for iphones to take the snapshots on in your bedroom before you get cleaned up heh, I fully expect to read in another couple of weeks their suing the shop where the gear as purchased and the company that makes the gear and then find out they were done for fraud for faking the whole matter, from memory when a battery burst into flames in a torch and jettisoned itself through the on/off button on the end the hair of the manikin wa completely vanished in about 3 seconds yet this kid apparently had one do that just inches fro mhis face (without loosing a hand) and suffered nothing more than some soot and some singed ends on one side of his head.... something very not "kosher" about the whole story

nanotm good point about the photo, the dad claims the kid was in such agony he quote "wanted to die". Call me too sentimental or something but my first reaction wouldn't be to get a photo of my kid who is in such agony.

The one part of a mod/ecig that could have used a bit of TPD regulation is the feckin battery there was a proposal 5 years ago put before an EU cross party working group to investigate the ability to impose stricter regulations on lithium batteries and the upshot was they cant do it, impossible to police the stuff on sale the only way would be for china etc to regulate the production to specific items, 3 months later the trade teams went to china and were impolitely shown the door after presenting their case, a few months after that the uk trade team went there and secured huge deals, the major difference we didn't ask them to impose new regulations as a condition of opening up new trade possibilities .... china is happy for its companies to make cheap explosives and ship them out I highly suspect that is one of the reasons why being's major cargo port was reduced ot a crater in the ground, the epicentre of what used to be a tower block facility looks like a few hundred tonnes of shaped charge acted like a mile long plasma lance (it effectively drilled a straight line 1 mile deep about 200meters wide in a single explosion just before the building disappeared into the hole) no doubt some clever spook took one for the team (because anyone exiting the area after the fire started would of been charged and beheaded) and did that to encourage china to utilise its great self determination that it needs to regulate the batteries markets (which is exactly what they have started to do) hope is on the horizon that batteries will no longer be supplied as re-wraps from china of skip contents that failed the legal requirements for safe operation ....
