Just wondering if anyone else has tried this in the past or anyone on it just now.
I had rather a good Christmas & New Year and over-indulged an eetsy weetsy more than I should have done. So by mid January and I was climbing the stairs on all fours, I decided to have a go at the 5:2 Fast Diet once again.
Well 6 weeks down the road and what a difference! My Blood/Sugar Level is back to normal and I have lost 2kg.
I Fast Mondays and Thursdays and by now it is nae bother. I am not hungry the following day and can get by on much reduced portion sizes. It is usually the day after, before I return to eating what would be "normal" portions. Well normal for me.
I am feeling better than I have in years and I intend to continue with fasting for a long time now.

What do you fast on for the 2 days? I've only ever crashed dieted back in the day which I do NOT recommend. Must admit, I'm enjoying food a lot more since stopping smoking

Glad its working for you.. never tried a diet myself i do like big portions tho, my favorite fish n chip shop sells just under a kilo of chips as a small portion, and a cod or hadock fillet is encapsulated in a light batter cocoon circa 14-16" x 3" x 1.5" which is a doddle to crack open and access the nice steamed fillet inside I dont think i have ever managed to polish off a complete helping.. tho i try hard each and every time i treat myself to a fish n chips.. Thank goodnes a) theu dont deliver and b) its a lil drive to get there otherwise it would be a much more frequent treat.. Im also fairly partial to the chicken curries they serve.. which always presents a dilemma when i order..

You might look at the warrior diet, under eating phase then an over eating phase, or you could just say a fasting period (18 or 20 hours), then an eating period (6 or 4 hours) in every 24. It works but needs work, you have to get used to the empty or hungry feeling and doing the warrior diet if you have a physical job is quite challenging. It's a great way to shift weight especially stubborn fat. I was surprised that during the over eating period you could stuff yourself stupid and still lose weight and you can eat whatever you want but healthy is obviously better.

The 5:2 Fast Diet is a book by Dr. Michael Mosley. He did a Horizon TV Program about it and it was that that steered me to it.
For Mondays, I start the Fast just after tea on Sunday Evening and I eat nothing, but do drink water, until 6pm on the Monday. Women are allowed 500 calories on Fast Days, men 600. I split my 600 between a meal at tea time and another at supper time. By the time I have eaten nothing for 24 hours. Then I break my fast as usual on Tuesday morning. The same pattern is followed Wed Teatime until Friday morning.
You would think that on the day following a fast, you'd eat like a horse but quite the opposite is true. Indeed on the day after a fast I feel a million dollars.
I am primarily doing the fast diet to get my blood/sugar under control. The weight loss is a bonus.

Been trying a new diet recently. Replaced a few meals with of semi-skimmed milk, and had 2x dry toast breakfast and a protein shake and a single wholewheat sandwich for lunch. Will keep this up for another week. It gives a good balance of low GI complex carbs, protein and healthy fats, while training the body to accept a lower calorie diet while at the same time preventing the body going into starvation mode to conserve calories (this is where the body eats muscle rather than fat as it thinks the next meal could be far away)

Yep, I'm on this type of diet right now. I've done it a few times before and it really works, and fast!
I don't get all anal about it though. Just live off porridge, veg and a chicken breast for 4 or 5 days followed by two eat-what-I-want days. It's easy. No need to starve yourself as you can eat as much veg as you like. The key thing is to avoid fruit (full of natural sugar) and bread/potato/pasta and anything sugary.
And the amazing thing is that the key to the speed of the diet is to confuse the body by really going for it on the calories on the eat-what-you-want days. So you really can stuff yourself silly with chocolate, pizza and whatever you like on those days. Having this to look forward to really helps you stick with the diet when you're struggling a bit.
I've lost a lot of weight really quickly when I've used this diet in the past and thoroughly recommend it over other diets which often involve starving yourself. It's fantastic. I'm back on it now, am in my second week and feeling great. Already lost a noticeable amount of weight and am back working out and feeling a lot better than when I was being a blob in December and January. Just today to go and then on my treat days starting tomorrow. But I feel so great that I'm finding it easy (helps that I love porridge, veg and chicken breast I guess) and, although looking forward to some nice treat meals, I could easily go another few days without getting a huge craving for any rubbish. Bread is my biggest temptation so I try to avoid supermarkets on my diet days as the smell of baking bread drives me wild with tummy-lust.
Anyways, good luck to anyone trying this diet, I hope you get on with it as well as I do!

Although 90% of folks could do this diet. For 10% it would be dangerous and because of this there are 2 factors that must be done before you start it. 1;- Read the book and understand what benefits the 5:2 Fast Diet will bring into your life. & 2;- Consult your doctor and clear it with him/her.
Other than these 2 factors, 5:2 Fast Dieting is a bit like vaping. The actual action is pretty basic, but hidden within it are a whole load of benefits that are not apparent to outsiders, but which make it very interesting and beneficial to its participants.

It must be understood that the 5:2 Fast Diet is about Fasting for 2 non-consecutive days per week and 5 days of normal (???) eating. However normal is not the type of eating we did that got us overweight in the first place, but the type of eating that falls below our TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). There are several websites where you can go that will work out your personal TDEE and from there you can calculate how much daily food intake you can have before you start to turn the excess into more fat.
Fast Days generally reduce this calorie count to one quarter. 16 non eating hours is the recommended total Fast Period although some folks recommend a 24 hour total fast period and by incorporating this into a 30 hour period (2 nights) they claim that this Fast brings more benefits.
I have tried both and the jury is still out as to which suits me best. It will take me some time before I work out a pattern that suits both myself and SWMBO.
The Fast Diet is neither FAST as in speed nor a DIET in the true sense of the word. It is more of an Eating Regime that will totally change your ideas on food and drink and enhance your physical and mental wellbeing as well as lengthen your life expectance.

He looks fabulous...but is still 3 stone overweight. His blood pressure is far more stable. All in all...he feels better in himself...& finds the diet no problem

I met Michael Mosley last week and the first thing I said "so not a fasting day then Michael?" He was tucking into some snacks at the time and answered no.

Crash diets might work short term but if you want the weight to stay off it's a whole lifestyle change. Yep, you have to change your current lifestyle of sitting on your arse eating kebabs to one of regular exercise and a balanced diet.
The 5:2 diet spreads 5 days worth of calories over 7 days, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that if you ate a little bit less on each of the seven days in a week it would have the same effect.
