I think the hardest part in the weeks to come is going to be not mollycoddling the other dog too much and trying to put a face on that says everything is normal and just as it should be. Unfortunately, with Mrs Lobey heading off on an all "Girls" (???) 2 week holiday to Lanzarote this Tuesday, the house will be somewhat strange with just us 2 boys here on our own. So I guess lots of walks are going to be the order of the day. These will help him with some distraction and me with some exercise.

I have been following a Ketogenic diet for the last 9 months, it is a low carbohydrate high fat diet. I did not want to lose weight (but did) the reason I changed my diet was to control my blood sugar (type 2 diabetic). you avoid carbohydrates (keep under 50 grams a day) but can eat as much fat as you want! but otherwise I can eat as much as I like. I mainly eat: cream, cheese, fatty meats, vegetables Coli-flour, broccoli, cabbage , nuts, eggs, bacon, sausage, avocado's, watercress, spinach but there are loads of other alternatives. I have to consciously make sure I get enough fat each day (can be difficult as in ketosis you do not feel hungry) or I will lose more weight as your body burns fat for energy instead of Sugars & Carbohydrates. There are loads of detailed presentations (and recipes) on you-tube, you won't go far wrong if you start off watching to Dr Stephen Phinney, Dr Caryn Zinn, Prof. Tim Noakes or Christine Cronau. I no longer take any medication for Diabetes, as my blood sugar has returned to normal, (did so in the first few weeks). If you want to lose weight it is brilliant, just consult your Doctor first ( I didn't and went to see the Doctor after 6 months and he was good with it).
THIS DIET IS NOT A QUICK FIX DIET, IT NEEDS TO BE A LONG TERM DIET, and you have to be very strict on Carbohydrates or you will drop out of ketosis and not not lose weight.

lobeydosser, So sorry to hear about sweet Mull. The pain of parting with a much loved animal companion never gets easier, but most of us go back for more of the same, with eyes wide open, and in the certain knowledge that sharing joy and companionship with them is absolutely worth the agony of falling in love with them, then letting them go...

Thanks lynwlt. I have been through all this before although it was quite a few years ago now. I have spent the day going through all Mull's stuff and getting rid of it, just his toys to go now. The other wee fellow, Coll, was a bit lost last night as the only time they were ever close on a day to day basis, was when they were together in bed at night and last night he just sat in the corner of the cage looking lost. However this morning he was fast asleep, fully stretched out and clearly enjoying the luxury of a full cage/bed to himself. Hi gillas, Thanks for sharing your diet with us. If it works for you then bet your shirt on it. That diet is certainly not for me. I don't like any diets that restrict me to only certain kinds of foods. I enjoy my sustenance too much. And anyway, a Fasting Diet is not just about losing weight. There are so many other attractions that go to make Fasting a great benefit to those that follow it. So much so that even those that do not want to lose any weight, also follow it to enhance their mental and physical wellbeing. There is more than just me in this house and any diet has to fit in with what others are eating. Fasting is the only one I have come across that causes the least possible disruption yet works on so many levels. But, like I've said before, each to his or her own and what is convenient for some, will not be so for others.
