We're thinking about this diet, I've been on a 'normal' diet for nearly 2 weeks and lost about 5lb but I feel starving all the time, I crave my cheese, chocolate, cider etc, if 5:2 can help me and allow me to have a little indulgence it's worth a try

Thanks gill2009, We have him on medication for a week and he goes back to the Vet next Wednesday. The Vet will then make the decision whether he needs an operation or not. So fingers and Paws cross until then. Hi Q, All I can suggest is that you read the 5:2 Fast Diet book. Only then will you be able to decide whether it is for you or not. Others seem to think that it is the fasting that makes you lose weight but it is not. Many folks who are at the weight they want to be, continue to Fast as in the book. They do not lose weight. It may be called the Fast "Diet" but it is so much more than that.

Update on our dog Mull. He has been at the Vet all day for x-rays & blood tests etc and his bladder, although showing small stones, these are insignificant compared to the other problems that he has. He is very Anaemic, has Tumours in his mouth, he is bleeding in places that he should not be and he has suspected Cushing's disease. We have him home again tonight (after they emptied my wallet!!!) and now the samples and biopsy has been sent away for analysis. It will be next week before we get the results back. All in all my vaping got a fair hammering today and it will probably get more of a hammering over the next few days until we hear exactly what, if anything, can be done to sort the poor little fellow out. Mull, in better days.

They cannot tell you when things are going wrong and so it is only when a noticeable thing happens and you get it checked out, that other things come to the fore. Even the Vet didn't spot what was happening until he saw some x-rays and then he started delving deeper. Then the problems came thick and fast.
The Vet did a blood spin test and the blood should have come out 50/50 fluid and blood. Our dog's came out 80% fluid and 20% blood. So if he has a knock or a bad bump and he has an internal bleed, the blood will not clot and he will bleed to death. So he is being subjected to Kid Gloves treatment until we can get him fixed.

I had my mid term Diabetic Review today and the 5:2 Fast Diet I am on has made a remarkable difference to these results. My Cholesterol is down, well below both the British and European average, my Blood/Sugar Level is down so much that my Diabetic Medication has been halved and my weight is down by 4kg despite having only been on the diet for 7 weeks.
On the non-diabetic side, of the 2 non-prescription medicines that I have been hooked on for over 5years now, I am completely off these now, thanks to the mental strength that Fasting has given me.
Whilst I knew within myself that I was feeling better than I have been for years, these results are testimony to me that the 5:2 Fast Diet is the best thing the could have happened to me since I changed from Smoking to Vaping.

Last night we had a Chinese takeaway meal and although I enjoyed it, because I am on the Fasting Diet, my attitude to meals has changed and I am much more interested in tastes rather than volume.
Chinese and Indian takeaways do tend to overdo the volume bit and for some time now I have been halving these meals and freezing one half to have some other day.
When 2 days of my week are a Fast, the actual taste of food becomes, for me, more important that it ever has before and, for the first time in my life, hunger and emptiness is a better feeling than being stuffed to the point of feeling bloated.
Next week Mrs Lobey is away to Lanzarote for 2 weeks and I will be able to eat what I want, when I want. It will be great to not be tied to "meal times" and the outside factors that we impose on ourselves to conform to eating certain foods at certain times just because that is the way it has always been.
I am also looking forward to the summer when I am harvesting my own crops. Then I will only take in what we can comfortably eat and leave the rest to grow on for another meal, another day. Shops these days tend to be limited in what they sell and we are often forced to buy veg that has to be cooked and then the excess frozen. Fresh veg, picked, cooked and eaten all within an hour or two will be a luxury that we have yet to enjoy.

Lobey thats great news!!! Cabt believe its made such a difference to your overall health. Well done and keep it up.
I was lates last week and i attempted a semi fast plan.
I wouldnt have breakfast till 11.45am, and leave for work at 12pm. That would consist of a measured portion of bran flakes type of cereal. Id have one banana at approx 4pm. A very small/light meal in evening like wholemeal pasta and veg with a pint of water. Then i finished work at 10.30pm. Home for 11.15pm ish. Another pint of water and then bed.
So ive been going from 6pm till 11.45am next day with no food. And then small healthy portions after that.
I lost 4 pounds doing that last week. Quite shocking really as i didnt do any excercise (apart from my job). I did have a couple of pints of booze in the week too.

Whatever works for you thebishman. Fasting is the flexible way to cut the calories and lose the weight. Doing it "by the book" certainly has helped me with my mental well-being as well, but if it is just weight loss your after, then cutting down on the cals will work. My wee dog had to be put down this afternoon. We got some of his test results back and he was much worse than anybody had ever seen, so now he is at peace. It will take a while for it to sink in, but we do have the other one to keep us on our toes.

lobeydosser ... I'm gutted to hear your latest news... so sorry. I'd love a dog again, but for all the loving years they give you, I couldn't stand losing them. Silly I know.

I'll confess to not being remotely interested in your diet Lobey . . . . though I do send you my heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your furry companion. It's hard, so very hard saying goodbye - the pain is almost too much to bear. Play safe over The Bridge little Mull.

Thanks all. Yes, it is going to be hard over the next days, weeks etc, but standing in the vet's today and hearing all the things that was wrong with him and the prognosis of his immediate future and how he was likely to suffer, well the decision had to be in Mull's best interest.
I'll see him again at the Bridge someday.
