LED light bulbs???

not vape related, sorry, but i invested in some led light bulbs GU10 for the kitchen a while back, they didnt have a very long life and soon were replaced with the incandescent variety again..  

Anyway ive now got some more and they have a 3yr guarantee, but the shop has no standard fitting (bayonet) type with a similar performance guarantee, has anyone else come across quality bayonet fitting led light bulbs equivelant to 40w 60w and 100w bulbs anywhere at all??

I have their Opus 7w (60w) which looks like a normal bulb, cool white 5600k 630 lumens and is dimmable, which a lot of LEDs are not.

TBH for the kitchen you are better off investing in a ceiling mounted fluorescent light - I recently had one put in mine and the difference is amazing compared to a 100w incandescent

I replaced all our undercabinet bulbs with LED's. They originally had 5w SES pygmy bulbs in, but got sick of them going and having to replace them. The current bulbs have lasted well over a year now. How long they will last who knows, but they have outdone the incandescent ones so far.

The distinction between cool and warm light is important while the cool white is great in the kitchen, i think it would be too bright an effect and unforgiving of bedroom, lounge clutter.

i do wince in the morning to find the kitchen light with 4 x 50w spot bulbs has been on all night..

i went with led under cabinet lamps when doing the kitchen a decade back Bobsbeer while they dont get used a lot, not had one blown bulb yet..

I prefer the cool white to the normal warm yellowy type bulbs, especially with the lower wattages these days, when you could get 100w incandescent, they were nice and bright, the horrible Philips style bulbs take so long to attain full brightness are next to useless, especially in places where you only switch the light on when needed (hallway, upstairs), I have the 7w (60w) dimmable GLS LED in my bedroom cum workroom and although it is not bad it is not as good as the 100w Halogens that I want to replace (heard these may be banned this/next year like the 100w incandescents)

I've bought a few from FT (BC is quite hard to find), this one was brilliant, a lovely white bright light... for about 4 months, then I'm guessing, around ¾ of the LEDS packed in, it is now a very nice night light

I too have some GU10 for my kitchen which I've yet to fit, got them from Aldi just before Christmas, I had the last 10, really needed another 5 (we have a very bright kitchen)

I fixed/soldered 5 mtrs of cool white LED strip (gel 5050) into 4 foot IP65 battens. Garage sorted and if any part of that strip fails I can solder a piece of strip back in. Plus the strip is affixed to the metal reflector of the batten. I am now running another 2 battens off my solar panel system on garage roof. Not too good for kitchens though..ok in utils room as well.

I did that because everything being sold out there is largely expensive cr*p...from China.

My wife recently went out and replaced all 4 GU Halogens in our bathroom with equivalent LEDs - bleddy hell, it's like going to the loo in an operating theatre, but it will be interesting to see how long they last. I think she got them from Home Bargains . . .

I've changed 13 halogens in my kitchen/dining room to LEDs. 3 of them were slipped into a ft order a few months back, one was DOA, they resent a replacement after the usual request for photo (of an unlit bulb)
I put another in a lamp in my living room (small edison screw)

Out of the 4 from ft two are still working.

I was recommended LED Hut. Most of their bulbs have a 5 year warranty. Not all good though, they promised next day delivery but it was 4 days - they used MyHermes who don't even have a next day delivery promise. You do seem to get what you pay for with LED lights. 10 Fasttech G4 LEDs lasted less than 5 minutes, 10 GU10 from China lasted less than a month, 4 German made GU10 from Costco still going strong after 4 years but £8.50 a bulb. Try Clas Ohlson, they have bayonet fittings Standard LED Bulb, not tried them but I've had others that have lasted really well.

I have got some LED bulbs with bayonets from Waitrose. I have no idea if they are dimmable or not, but they have been going for about a year.

I also got a single LED GU 5.3 from Lidl just to see if they worked- so far so good.

for under cabinet lights I got these from amazon a few years ago, also got some for the kids to use as in bed reading lamps and in 3 years they all still work perfectly www.amazon.co.uk/Leyton-Lighting-Linkable-Striplight-Consumption/dp/B009X98CV8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456438348&sr=8-1&keywords=leyton+lighting+led+strip there cheaper now as well, you can either use link leads or plug them directly into each other for longer runs best bit is they don't kick out heat even after being on for hours on end (we have some inside a cabinet in the lounge for side lighting without the harsh main lamps on)

I found the GU10 stuff doesn't last anywhere near as long as the b22 ones do probably because they need a heat sink and don't have the space for one in the bulb so the chip overheats and its life span is shorter.... the b22 lamps I have (2 in the lounge that are normally on for 16+ hours a day lighting the dark corner my pc inhabits) are now 3 years old and no signs of dying off.

I got some ip65 rated led units for the bathroom mirror (fed up with the tuubes blowing every few weeks) has been working for the last 6 months without any problems, it doesn't get hot either and gives out plenty of light but the vendor I got them from has closed up shop.....


I've also had dimmable lamps from ebay in the past, cheap things that cost under £1 each but the lamp got busted so I have no idea how long they would of lasted otherwise (kids being kids and not paying attention as they flail about the place) but even if they only lasted 12 months at that price it was cheaper than the incandescents..... led's seem to have lots of price spikes throughtout the year so look every few week at the prices and buy whenever stuff is on the cheap
