Cocker spaniel, 12 years old, drinking a lot was the main reason, obviously we knew it could be a liver problem, or as it turns out, oner of the reasons we also took him was he would not quit licking his bits, made them ed raw, anyhow, vet took bloods, were on the high end but ok and gave us some cream, so took him home , I gave him a good shower and bits wash lol, and once he'd dried mrs put the cream doc had prescribed on him, i couldn't do it twice that's perverted haha he's ok, blind as a bat though, well nearly. I was going to get a new battery for the bike 40 quidish, that'l have to wait a bit as vet cost 150, for 20mins, and people say the firm I work for is expensive?

Got a couple of vets, both 10 miles away but in opposite directions, one is half the cost of the other but does a superb job. No idea why there's such a price difference.

It's the same round here for vets. The nearest one is twice as expensive as the one a few miles away. So we opt for the extra travel. Glad you got him sorted.

Hope your Max is on the mend Bluefish. With a £5,500 Vet's bill for my Sammy some years back - that the insurance only very partially covered, I've kept up with having my pups insured . . . . and read the small print considerably better since shopping around for a different insurer! ( Although I would have sold the car or whatever it took to pay his bill. ) But it's no wonder that people are wary of taking their pets for treatment with such epic bills you can get.

Hope your Max is OK ( Although I would have sold the car or whatever it took to pay his bill. ) Same here, didn't come to that but Our Pup had a terrible reaction to vaccinations that sent her immune system into overdrive. The £4000 insurance didn't even cover the first month. 5 emergency blood transfusions PCV blood tests initially every other day 10 Steroid tablets every day 3 Immuno Suppressant tablets every day Vet was great & tried to keep cost to a minimum, issued prescriptions so we could source the drugs ourselves much cheaper on-line. 12 months treatment almost to the day. Vaccination no longer an option for us, only regular Titer tests at Glasgow Uni for peace of mind. She's now 6 & doing great. Have never dared to tot up all the receipts.

Delighted to hear your girly is now doing well.

I hope the cream has made max more comfortable Bluefish I also dare not tot up how much I spend at the vets. However, with 7 cats & most of them now elderly, insurance is out of the question

Back in the day, when I was with the ex, we were living in Edinburgh, our dog was ill, the vet suspected brain tumor, we had to take him to a racehorse place at Newmarket for a scan, was not a tumor luckily, cost us 900 quid, and that was with insurance, can't afford bills like that nowadays, anyone wanna buy a kidney lol

When I got my boy from a rescue charity a few years ago he'd recently been neutered and kept removing his stitches, he's a big dog and ended up with a collar the size of a small dustbin...

Took him back last weekend, different vet on duty, she wasn't too impressed with the infection, so gave us some antibiotics for him, which he loves eating lol, seems to be clearing up now, and he's not trying to get to his bits all the time. He's defo happier now, taking a snooze at the mo, which is unusual cos he normally can't sit still for two mins.
