Hi all, Now I know I'm a bit of a dinosaur but I'm still using cartomisers and reckon it's time to move on. Trouble is, I've tried various cheap clearomizers and find them to be either unreliable or plain rubbish (burnt taste, only 5 out of 10 work etc.) So, I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm looking at buying a couple of Kanger EVOD Clearomizers and some replacement wicks. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible but I'm getting confused. Once I've bought the clearomizers, am I right in thinking they don't need replacing? I just replace the wicks as and when? See I've never used anything that wasn't 'all in one' disposable. Or is there a better buy for me? These are for use with standard 1100 mAh batteries. Nothing fancy. All advice gratefully received.

vcmazz - nothing wrong with being a dinosaur! The Evod clearomisers are still a good clearo, with good coils which are readily available. They will fit perfectly on your batteries, and yes you are right, once you have the clearomiser you only need to swop the coil heads every week or 10 days once the taste diminishes or starts getting a burnt flavour. You can get these, or a glass version (provided you don't mind yellow at the moment!). Coils are cheaper buying from somewhere like Fasttech if you don't mind a 3-week wait Evod 1.8ohm coil 5-pack, or you could buy in this countryHope this helps! - Andy

Id suggest getting a couple of ego aios, up to date small and simple. Not tried 1 yet but reviews seem most favourable.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll order a couple of EVODs for now and maybe experiment with your other suggestions as and when funds allow. Just to clarify Andy - are the wicks built into the coil heads? I'm guessing that must be the case?

Oh one last question - I am right in thinking that these are more reliable and better quality that the all in one disposable clearomisers, right?

The Coil head just screws in - they can also be rebuilt if you feel adventurous

And do take up prr's kind offer, they will work even better once he's worked his magic on them!

Welcome vcmazzEVOD clearos (and all those) are OK, but not 100%. I could only live with them once I'd got into rebuilding them and using cotton instead of silica. These day you can buy factory cotton coils for them. I think you'll have to try them out and see what you think. Personally, I think that with silica wicks it's a NO from me but with the SOCC (MT32) Coils, it's a YES. You can buy SOCC from Fasttech. www.fasttech.com/product/2438800-authentic-kangertech-socc-coil-head-5-pack£2.35

tbh in comparison to carto's I'm sure you will be fine with evods, its a sensible step up, especially as you are using ego batteries. Many of us recommend an aspire mini nautilus but they only really sit well on a box mod/ battery
I still occasionally use stock coils (with silica) and I find them quite satisfactory, in fact my handbag stealth mod is a sd keyring and an iclear10. Its surprisingly cloudy and a very tasty vape, considering its a single top coil with silica wick. In fact I still occasionally use cartos, leakfree and faff free so I keep a couple in for emergencies.

Oh how spoilt for choice new vapers are these days It certainly didn't used to be better (although the sense of achievement of turning a Meh miser into a decent vape was greater ) but the limited choices did make recommendations so much simpler LoL Evod's, ProTank and Davide Mini's - all take the same coil heads - which are easy to fill, pretty much leak free - and Cheap to run Whether you just want to purchase new coils, get them remade from friendly forum folk, or attempt the job yourself - they are a different step from carto's, but work well with eGo batteries. If they work for you - EXCELLENT! There really is no need then to invest in newer equipment - which can easily become chasing the next/best vaping/flavour experience - fun but unnecessary
