I've been vaping a while, got myself an iLeaf 40 and a Subtank Mini v1 and loved the flavours I was getting with a 1.2 Ohm coil, upgraded to a Kanger Kbox70 which carried on the flavour. Was out in the states last month and got a Kanger Topfill Mini and was a little hit and miss with the taste.. Wasn't sure if it was the new coil or the new airflow.. Went back to my usual subtank but with a .50 ohm and it's been really hit and miss.. I've not really followed the whole sub ohm so I could be doing this all wrong!! I usually vaped at 18w and go as high as 22w occasionally but never higher as that seemed to give burnt hits.. A local B&M shop has opened up I popped in and asked what he advised as maybe it was time for a change and he slated kanger completely which surprised me and recommended the Aspire Cleito. Anyone offer any words of wisdom? Am I doing this all wrong??? Currently vaping some juice from Good Life Vapours from the US and love the smell from the juice but the taste just doesn't seem to be there..

Yeah you need to up the power. Lower the resistance the more power you need to achieve the same heat. Start at 25W and bump it up a watt or two at a time until you find your sweet spot.

Would I be better starting on a fresh coil? Wonder if running this low for at least 2 weeks now might have knackered it...
Is the cleito any good or is this just a B&M trying to get a sale?

no idea about the cleito but I have subtanks on 0.5ohm coils and run them at 27watts no problems (the coils have 25>30w recommended temps) in bot the mini topfill and the standard 4ml tanks
also have the crown with stock 0.5ohm coils running at 30w (again recommended temp)
I also used the tfv4 quad coils at 80w (also 0.5ohm) again recommended temp
then I use the rba heads on cheap cotton at slightly higher temps with around 0.5ohm claptons in them and no problems, although with the 70%vg or higher sweet liquids they gunk up quite fast and start to taste nasty after about a week

Is the cleito any good or is this just a B&M trying to get a sale? not sure it depends if the vape is right off which it sounds like. Two weeks down the line the coil/wick might be getting a touch funky even if you haven't run it at higher wattages. umm... the chap in my local B&M positively hates Kanger Subtanks, bane of his existance and yet strangely enough he couldn't sell enough of them 9 months ago.

Hence the confused.. I've had coil/wick which have lasted a month/month and a half before going like this.. Odd but I'll try a new one, really need to have a go at using the Subtank RBA but thats a challenge for another day.
While I like the kbox with all this I've been looking and thinking about maybe getting another mod as a second/backup.. As I like the all-in-one of the Kbox/iLeaf looking at maybe the Coolfire 4 TC 100 or maybe a Tesla Nano if I can find one.

Its one of those things isn't it, disposable heads; they can last a week or they can last a month depending on which juice or power setting you use. Personally I've never had more than week out of a Kanger sub-ohm OCC before it starts to go off flavour and went over the using the RBA within the first pack of coils. The 1.2/1.5 ohm coils are another matter, I've just had to change the one in my ST nano and only because I just fried it after swapping over mods to put the istick on charge. Note to oneself.......Must check power

I run SSOCC coils at 18-22 watts (most of the day, maybe not the evenings) and have no complaints. I notice this is the same as you! The latest SSOCC have large juice holes and can go up and up i.m.o. The latest airflow arrangement (two holes, on both sides) is epic.... I'm totally mystified. Then again, you say you were sold the 70w box on flavour and without wishing to sound unfriendly, the power source has nothing to do with flavour. The flavour is the same in any generation of subtank (with the same coils) as far as I can tell. In disagreement with everyone else, I don't personally think the flavour on SSOCC gets better with more power. Running a coil for a month is as good as pointless as well; change it on two weeks, regardless. It's £1.20. What factory coils exactly are you using? There has been more than 2 versions at least. IMO they get better each version. The Ni200 are very unreliable to the point of being useless as well.

@djs Oh I know the power source won't affect flavour.. I picked up the Kbox as it was recommended as being more stable with power than the iLeaf, although in my experience I've not found that to be completely true but that could just be my unit.
The previous heads were both SSOCC one being the old and one being the new. Currently I've got a new SSOCC in actually and it's doing ok, no burn hits and flavour isn't too bad but got it in the topfill at the moment which I think gives a tighter draw compared to the Submini v1. May swap it over to the SubMini later see what the flavour is like in that with this head.
Previous to these SSOCC coils I was using the plain OCC 1.2Ohm heads which were doing brilliantly but occasionally (from B&M shops) become like the preverbial rocking horse... Although I wouldn't mind knowing where to pick heads up for £1.20!! I've even been keeping an eye out for the ceramic ones as a few things I read, they raved about the taste especially fruity based liquid

Hi unseen I'm the same with my preference for the older square OCC coils and the five remaining packs I have are all 1.2ohm horizontal coils. I only use them in a ST nano and they last absolutely ages. They were...... wait for it...5 dollars a pack on Gearbest, I believe they were old stock being cleared for the vertical OCC where to get them cheaper, £1.26 each or less www.fasttech.com/products/3007/10009412/2010103the drop down menu has OCC and SSOCC for around $8.50

ive had a subtank mini V1 since i gave up 15 months ago and use it for my all day custard fix at work. ive heard the V2 is not as good on flavor but i cant comment on that as never used one.
what i do know is the new square occ coils are kak. bought a box thinking they were the older coils (the air holes are flat on the old occ instead of the new angled inwards if that make sense). the old ones would last me a month at 20watts while the new ones didnt last 2 weeks and got the burnt taste at 20w so ran it at 18w instead.
so i bought a box of ssocc coils instead and they love drinking juice so much faster with no flavor difference. a tank used to last me all day with about 1/4 left but with the ssocc im lucky if ive got dregs left in the bottom. luckily someone was selling 20 of the old occ for £22 so i grabbed them straight away. ive checked almost all uk suppliers and even though they are still using the older pictures with the flat air hole they are actually selling the new occ.
if you can get them from china then buy them but make sure you check they are the older occ first.

Strange you should mention that because when I first started using the ST mini the coils that came with it were horizontal and all I could buy at the B&M was vertical...which would either leak or dry hit and burn. definitely sold here but $13.30/£10 per pack from the euro warehouse www.gearbest.com/electronic-cigarettes/pp_148267.html?wid=3
