From BODMAS its -1 ...innit? 9-3div1/3+1 aka a crap expression! Div.... (3div1/3) = (3*3/1) = 9 or 9 thirds in numeral 3 Add... (9+1) Sub... (9-10) = (9-(+10)) which is (+9 -10) = -1 (negative priority) No it's 1 as mikedidthis showed in post 10 you don't need the brackets for subtraction and addition, the middle term in not a multiplier for the 1

The answer is deffo 13 div 1/3 = 3 / (1 / 3) = 9 therefore 9 - 9 + 1 = 1 exactly as Mike said - confused me at first

I used to teach maths until recently and the issue here as was said above, is bodmas. The order od precedence of maths operators is anything in brackets, followed by any multiplications, the divisions, then subtractions than additions. Therefore the 3 gets divided by the1/3 first=1,then the 9 -1 =8, finally add the other 1 =9

BODMAS No brackets so divide first. 3 divided by 1/3. Turn the fraction upside down and multiply. 3 x 3 = 9 9 - 9 + 1 = 1

I think we all need either 1, 3 or 9 beers before we try another one.

I thought it was clear, but maybe this will help.

He he. I must admit I got it wrong at first as I forgot about the order. To put everyone out of their misery. The answer is 1.
You have to remember the order or priority of mathematical equations. something I haven't had to do for many a year, so in line with most of the others I also got it wrong.

First I've heard of BODMAS, but I have understood it for as long as I can remember, maybe they didn't us it in the 70s and 80s.

Yep we got BODMAS in the early 80s. Then I got it again when I studied a bit more in the 90s.
