I wanted an English bulldog or a french bulldog. But I got out voted as I live with 3 girls. Well now I live with 4 girls. This is elsa a pomeranian. Luckily my mrs wants one as much as i do! Ive decided to go along to a few bulldog meets/shows to speak directly to recognised breeders. I want to make sure they we are good enough for the dog as much as the dog suitable for us. My friend has a bulldog and they have regular meets in Greenwich park London. There is a massive turn out. You can meet top breeders there and get loads of info.

thebishman, If you have never had a dog, you need some facts. There is only one way to be able to "own" a dog. That is to be it's master. Dogs are pack animals. They need to know where they are in the *pecking order*. That means that it (he/she) needs to bottom of the list, especially with Bull breeds. If they think they are getting the upper hand, they can be very vicious. ALL dogs crave to be "TOP DOG". It's where the phrase comes from. You don't have to be cruel or nasty, just be the boss. And make sure all of you family do the same. My advice would be to go to dog training (human training) exercises. Sorry if I sound condescending, but I have had dogs, and the are all different.

I'm no expert for sure Bish . . . . all the dogs I've owned have had different temperaments, been differing breeds and crossbreeds. Ultimately they've all responded well to love, discipline, exercise, praise and reward. I've discovered a ' secret weapon ' for my latest Staffie X is homemade Liver Jerky ( Pand I have to say is no more strong willed than small terriers I've had. ) As you can see it also works on other breeds!

Yep . . . . that's Harper, Pand's best mate! The spaniel is Toby Dog ( love interest for both girls ) . . . . . they all play together as happy as can be, no aggro - nothing. Just happy well socialised, friendly pups.

Dobermans and rotties are the only dogs that scare me. I probably read too many stories but they still worry me! The problem is, generally only the bad stuff gets reported so it perpetuates the prejudice and mistrust sadly Bish - I'd have either or a Pit Bull for that matter if they weren't a restricted breed here . . . . comes down to their training like all dogs and of course the owners. My Sammy ( a small rough haired Terrier X ) used to have two great Rottie friends, Chester and Bramble - they were so gentle with him, he was the hooligan! An ex-neighbour was a local Prison Dog Handler, he had two massive GSD's . . . . and I was the only one in the road who would make a fuss of them. Gorgeous dogs who used to put a paw on either side of my shoulders ( I'm 5' 8" ) and nuzzle me. Loved it I did! And even much mistreated Pit Bulls can be rehabilitated and become loving family pets . . . . . barkpost.com/vicktory-dogs/
