I'm like a broken record . . . . but some of my stash has been in the freezer for over 5 years stored in this way, without the benefit of scientific testing it appears as fresh as the day it went in. No need to be apologetic - that's just the kind of reassurance some of us need hear about.

You'd need to store much less the stronger you go, so I'd encourage you to think 72mg/ml. (,,,) I'm like a broken record . . . . but some of my stash has been in the freezer for over 5 years stored in this way, without the benefit of scientific testing it appears as fresh as the day it went in.Just what I wanted to hear as well. Sitting here, with the bottom draw of the freezer all cleaned and cleared waiting for a decades? delivery of 72 nic base so that is good news. Thanks that is the longest nic base storage I have read about.

Nothing wrong storing less strong "premix" snow , only you'll need a lot more of it to last the same period of time. Remember premix <20mg/ml should still be available post TPD apocalypse. [ETA] .... albeit in 10ml stupid sized bottles! I expect most people will have done their own calculations but it looks like the end of DIY mixing on a medium to large scale anyway. My most telling calculation is that from one of my current 200 ml bottles of 7.2% base I can make nearly a liter and a half of e-juice (1440ml) at 1% nic. To achieve the same amount at the same strength with 10ml* 'bottles' I will need to buy decant and discard 80 of the little buggers. *at 1.8% which is likely to be the maximum strength available to avoid running foul of the 2% limit. Same as now the legal limit is actually 7.5% but sellers only usually risk 7.2%

I was going to take a photo for comparison purposes to show you, of my very oldest base and the newest purchased last month - as I use VG it's extremely gloppy and straight out the freezer won't pour from the bottle - I've just tried. I'd rather not defrost and then refreeze the whole bottle unless I have to, so forgive me for not doing so - I'll endeavour to remember when I next need to use some. For now I'm pleased my word is sufficient.

I've just looked back through my spends spreadsheet - nic base has come right down over the last few years. April 2013 I got 500ml from NicVape, and even after a 10% forum discount, it was £57 ...and that was the cheapest option at the time..... I still think I need another couple of litres in the freezer to top up, only got 4.5 litres left for 3 of us.....

Hmm litre and 1/2 in freezer 2 litres en route , may have to consider a couple of 5L containers before the final curtain call

Now then, about this decanting business . . .
Bearing in mind we seem now to be contemplating storing nicotine base for long enough, so that we can can leave it as a bequest in our wills, the question in my mind is whether the mere act of decanting might introduce more of the dreaded O₂ into our nic base than leaving an air gap at the top of our long-term storage containers.
So my question is - Is decanting into smaller bottles doing more harm than good?

The only answer I can find is : as long as the bottles are not unduly disturbed the act of freezing slows down any potential chemical reaction

Ok. I get the proposition that, once decanted, the nic base should be disturbed as little as possible.
For me, the key issue is that, if left in the plastic bottles, there is a likelihood that the nic base will leach out nasties from the plastic materials the bottle is made from. From this standpoint, decanting into glass seems to be a must. But decanting seems like another chance for O2 to be dissolved.
The big unknown is that we don't really know how the nic base is treated by the suppliers. Is it already saturated with O2 by the time we get it delivered to us?
If that's the case, then decanting can't do any more harm and this seems to be Perpetua's experience over a fairly extended period.
On balance, I think I've just talked myself into thinking that the possible dangers of leaving the nic base in plastic for any extended period are far greater than the possible disappointment of the nic being oxidised to the point of going bad.
OK. So glass bottles it is. As it will be in a dark freezer, I'm not too bothered what colour the glass is.
And, yes, we have recently become the proud owners of a garage freezer. I'm sure I couldn't have done it without your input, folks. I thank you!

It does cost extra* but you can of course buy the stuff already in 200ml glass bottles. If the cash is available possibly worth it.
* the price of a few packs of cigs per liter although still not inconsiderable when buying 4 plus liters obviously.

I remember it well GJ . . . . got a litre of Rich's VG base in my freezer as it happens - his prices have also come right down since, but it's hit and miss if you get hit with Duty excess. And, we've the excellent UK options now to choose from.

That's a wise choice I believe Puffing Billy , people far more learned than me are all of the opinion that glass bottles are the best way for the long term storage of Nic Base. I bought one of these dinky little table top freezers for our stash - it's come down in price since I bought it. www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4810430.htmHolds a good few litres . . . . .
