Netty I'm not aiming this comment at you or your grand daughter... its just an opinion at the general nature of this thread
In my view school is a preparation for life in more ways than one... i can see why you feel proud that your grand daughter stood up for herself by taking action but in my view its not the best action to be taking ...sitting her down and working through her issues would benefit her more rather than avoiding them.
In all walks of life whether it be school or adulthood we have to face bullying and embarrassment but avoiding the situation makes it more difficult to deal with ... psychologically it gives it strength until a point when we feel we just can't deal with it
i know im taking this example to an extreme but for some people avoidance can easily lead to crippling existence

Right arriving late at the thread and a little bit tiddly also missing the majority of the posts , my sister is a drama teacher, my sister missed far more lessons at school than I ever did , my grandad once found my little sister and her friend hiding in the vestibule ( whilst skipping school) at my house p****** him self laughing and said "What you doing there cock",My sister was told by her biology/stroke registrar teacher told my sister she would never make anything of herself . My sister is passionate about education and firmly tells her pupils don't give me excuses whatever it is I've done it and is a far better teacher than Mr Hay Ok she is still a little bugga that irritates the hell out of me at times but just goes to prove that missing a few lessons doesn't harm anyone . Although attending every lesson can make you destined to work in a call centre forever Oh and having a Grandparent who was beyond adorable can make you dance when they are gone

Hi peeps, don't worry i am not offended by anyone, just a bit surprised that my post has made some get their knickers in a twist. I am usually good with words but i don't seem to be able to put my point across.I have'nt condoned truancy in any shape or form,i am not talking about maths, english etc. If she was getting bullied in the usual sense of the word i would hope she would stand up for herself.I am talking about a class full of girls, laughing at her in PE,not 1,a class full.I would like to see the rightuous at her age go and get changed in front of a lot of people who are laughing at them because they are carrying a bit of weight. No amount of sitting her down, discussing the problem or giving her advice is going to give her the confidence to do that.Should she be segregated from them or FORCED to go through that, neither, she should refuse to do it in anyway she can. Please remember,we are thinking about this as adults,a 13yr old can not think as we do,we all know how we would handle it at our ages, thats why i am proud of her.Just for a second, think how she feels every PE day. And by the way,i do not blame the school,no one can stop a class full from laughing!

My daughter has always been a "big" girl , but we made light of it and just told her it was extra skin for her to grow into , she has never had a problem with her weight and is now as tall if not taller than me and weighs at least 2 stone more than me. So now she appreciates the way we handled it when she was paranoid, She is now about 6' with a big frame and carries her weight as she should.
Dunno why she is bigger/taller than me or the missus , must be a throwback in the gene pool of our families I guess

And by the way,i do not blame the school,no one can stop a class full from laughing! you are right no one can stop a class full of people laughing so that is why its important to sit her down and talk to her about it ...not necessarily to advise her how to handle it but to also hear how she is dealing with it emotionally... believe me i know how it felt and still feels. i've dealt with a lot of emotional insecurities about my appearance and self confidence and can tell you from my experience that avoiding a situation just makes it worse.

I have nothing more to add really, said how I'd deal with it, and shared my opinions, so I'd just be either repeating myself, or justifying myself, don't want, and don't have to do either. although... I would like to see the rightuous at her age go and get changed in front of a lot of people who are laughing at them because they are carrying a bit of weight. Never been on a football away trip have you???
