Welcome to British summertime Same thing isn't it To be realistic though, we can't cope with extreme weather conditions in this country, because we don't experience them every year like some other countries who cope better. Steel expands and buckles - not a lot we can do about it, without spending exorbitant amounts of money and that wouldn't please the investors.

I'm not going to start ranting about them or I'd be here all day, same sh*t, different name. At least their staff at Plymouth turn a blind eye to me vaping each night. Not that track maintenance or the speed limit imposed was on them, mind. But is one day of temperatures around 30° really extreme weather conditions? I mean we haven't even entered heatwave territory. I expect as little as possible was spent to begin with and any maintenance has followed the same pattern!

Never has even when it was the old British Rail and the money came out of the taxes, now it is privatised they don't want to spend too much otherwise the investors will wonder where their dividends are going - long welded rail doesn't help much, the old rails had expansion joints in them which helped stop buckling, but needed replacing more often. Glad to hear they let you vape down there though, went on the WSR on Saturday, vaped all the way down from Padd on the special (by the drop down windows of course), no problems on any of the stations we stopped at either.

I reckon there was sun tan lotion on the rails.

There are plenty of signs up to say that use of e-cigs is 'prohibited', but the only people that get told not to vape are the idiots that draw attention to themselves. One of the station managers has watched me vape on plenty of occasions without saying anything as I try not to get 'caught' and don't annoy people. Common sense is all we can ask for!

I wonder if we should ask the Japanese how to build railways. Their Bullet train travels from extreme cold to extreme heat and back again at 200 mph(ish). It is never late. Not even by a minute. And has done that for years now.
And they are now building a faster one. Like, right now....
And no. The Burma railway has nothing to do with it. That is ancient history.
