Hi guys,
On 25 August I mixed up 100ml each of PVC, CLC and Romelee custards. Followed the exact recipes and have left them steeping in a dark cupboard ever since.
First thing I noticed is that the colour hasn't changed much from since they were first mixed - still a very light golden colour (nicotine is about 4mg)
I thought I would have a cheeky little test on them yesterday (Nautilus - new coil between 7 & 10.5w and Cleito @ 43-48w) as I'm looking forward to them so much.
Sadly, they all smell like cat vomit to me at the moment - Do they just need more steeping time (appreciate it's only 3 and a bit weeks) or have I made some fundamental mixing boo-boo?
I'm just finding the DIY (apart from Red Astaire - shake and vape) very frustrating :-(
Cheers,
Andy

Not that I do much custard any more but I found they need an airing every couple of days to go dark in colour quicker. Take the cap of the bottle and squeeze the air space out a few times then cap back on and shake. You get better results by splitting a 100ml bottle between 2 100ml bottles as more air space. Those are just my observations with me own custard concoctions. I gave up on custard when I found strawberry milk.

Custard as been a pain in the backside for me for the last 4 year I can never get one just the way I like.
Strawberry milk sounds good any chance of letting us know the recipe ?

You won't find a massive change in colour at that strength nicotine ghostrider1971 . . . . as it's the nic oxidizing that is largely responsible for that. And, they need more time - lots of it.

Custard needs 3 months minimum and at it's best at 6 months in my experience. I mixed 250mls of perp's custardy lovechild in July to be ready for Christmas.

Thanks for the advice, guys - appreciated as always.
Have invested in some "Campfire custard" to keep me going until mine has had more steeping time :-)

As already said time and nicotine levels affect the basic colour of the juice. These have been kept sealed since mixing and the nicotine oxidation has been reduced. Notice that the zero nic is still alomost clear. However a bit left over from November '15 has had more air in the bottle, I had one that was almost black but unfortunately the New York Cheesecake had virtually wiped out the vanillas

All my custards are around the 4/5 mth mark before I use them, I deliberately make some custards every time I mix even if I already have a bunch and put them away, that way no matter what I always have some ready to vape at varying stages of maturity.
As I have lowered nic each batch has been lighter and lighter so IME it is definitely the nic that colours them, for example at the moment I have two April custards on the go, one at 8mg which is a dark rich brown but another made the same time with no nic is as clear as the day I made it.

The darkening of liquid has a lot to do with the nicotine level. However, it is air (the oxygen in it really) that darkens it. If you made liquid at any given nicotine %, it would not darken without oxygen. Oxygen. You can't live without it. But it is probably the most destructive element known. Although a chemist (such as *-SARIN-* ) might shoot me down on that.

I have litres of custard made up with no nic in it and it doesn't change colour at all from what I see. When I need it I just add nic and leave a few days then vape. The custard stays very pale but mmmmmm it's good
