I know it's sad to be even making comments about 'soaps'... never got into Eastenders because of it's depressing storylines... nor Hollyoaks, because my heart couldn't stand all the nubile young women who were making love without me! But now, Corrie and Emmerdale have gone into the 'twilight zone'... all trying to get one over each other with bl**dy ridiculous stories and absurd 'action' scenes. What do they do next to top them? A nuclear sub coming up the Manchester Ship Canal to capture Gail? A UFO lands in the Dales and the aliens abduct Paddy to be their President? Come back Hilda & Stan... come back Amos & Annie... Is it any wonder so many think that life is just a cartoon? Just my opinion!

Look on the bright side, TWD returns this weekend The zombies act better than most of the modern soap stars do Except for Z Nation - watched Series 1 on Netflix, then find out that Series 3 is on Pick - WTF where is Series 2 - oh! on DVD - so get that and watch it all, so I can then start to watch Series 3 - BUT WAIT - where does that carry on from - HUH! Series 1 so I am now seeing a girl who was killed off in S2 on S3

I have in the past been accused of watching '' shite '' TV programs . . . . which is probably true. However Coronation Street, Emmerdale and any of the soaps have never been part of my viewing schedule - if I need depressing, then a news channel is easy enough to watch! ( No offence intended to anyone who does enjoy watching these. )

We have to record East Enders in case the one that forces us to endure it, forgets what time its on, so don't escape it Thank god for Kodi, when you get a chance for watching something with more of a story and better acting I admit to watching Holby and Casualty, but that's for research purposes. I don't watch soaps, never have. I honestly cant see the point of following a fictitious characters life. As members have mentioned, the plots have evolved into a caricature of real life when the original concept of soaps was mimicking working class life. Ironically I like series on TV that have a continuing storyline - although each episode is a complete story. I like the familiarity of its characters and enjoy mini plots around their fictitious life....

Loving emmerdale at the moment. Since my life has been a bit of a drama these last two months, its great to watch fictional suffering and folk being killed off. Harsh maybe, but has put my real bit in perspective.

I know I'm a hypocrite, but I had to watch the two soaps tonight, and now I'm hiding all sharp instruments in the house! Plus I'm checking my car insurance premium, because the number of vehicles destroyed must have had an effect.

Were these ancient soaps from the black and white silent movie days ?

I must admit we have stopped watching corry recently as its just not funny anymore. Part of its charm was the fun factor. Eastenders always seemed dark and depressing. Emmerdale has also fallen off the radar and it was the only fresh air we got in our house
