I thought I would try a stainless steel coil in a Kayfun KFL+. 316L 26G 2.5 ID 12 wraps giving 0.7 ohms. Tried thoughout all settings up to 30 watts and no flavour or taste, Am I doing something wrong or do Kayfuns not play nicely with stainless ?

goneforagasper according to steam engine at those figures 30W is just getting to the sweet spot though I'm surprised you managed to get it into the KFL+ at 12 wraps I usually do 0.3 mm 316 2.0mm ID at 7 and a half wraps slightly spaced but run it in TC mode if that helps at all

As said above less wraps and space them out.Use SS a lot and no issues on kayfuns or any other tank tbh.

I don't use SS in Kayfuns (any) but fat wire doesn't work for me. I tried a 0.5 Clapton and couldn't get it running at all.
Maybe it's too thick (the wire?)....

Have used SS 26g in a Kayfun - a very similar coil to yours goneforagasper , not had a problem - though generally I think SS takes a little bit more 'breaking in' than Kanthal, the vape being a little thin tasting for the first tank or so, though this may just be my imagination!

Does it glow evenly (only glow it very dark red, not bright orange) I suspect you had to make a touching coil at 12 wraps which could be shorting between loops. The other possibility is with such a large coil it is touching the top section of the chimney.

I tried a spaced coil 7 wraps 0.44 ohms - tried on wattage and ss tc and so far I have to say that Kanthal suits me better.
I will keep experimenting
thanks for all the advice

In VW mode, depending on the mod you get 2 different vapes from ss: with mods like DNAs that have true real-time power regulation it should be more like kanthal, but with mods that just measure the resistance, work out the volts required for the wattage setting and just supply that like YiHi, IPVs and a lot, but not all Chinese boards the power will decrease as the coil heat up.

I just had 6 or 7 wraps of the 26G 317L in mine on my mech but my taste buds have been funny due to lurgy so found it a bit to much lol. To much on flavour? I must be mad! But yeh, I think they're starting to come back to normal now though. Anyway I tend to aim for about 0.5/6 with the kayfun and run it on a tube mech

I use 5 spaced turns of 0.35mm in my KF5 clone for around 0.5 ohms. Vapes beautifully at 15w.
Haven't got on with dry burnt SS contact coils, awful flavour and the resistance is all over the place.

Definitely use fewer wraps 6-7 and space them out. I think I get a better vape with spaced coils and you get less heat concentration on your wick. KFL may not wick juice well enough for a hot coil, pay close attention to your wicking. Don't leave too much wick on the deck and make it fluffy before gently tucking it in.

SS coils in my Kayfun are my favourite SS is so easy to work with and I get excellent flavour from either spaced or micro 2.5-3mm diameter
