Bobsbeer Be interesting to see if your mag stirrer is up to the job, if so, I'll bring mine out of retirement. Been hanging my nose over a Sonic Cleaner. Bet there's not many on here who know what a Yeast Slant is Bob. Jim ETA Up to pres I've always been a seal and shake man!

I'm not expecting it thrash the living daylights out of my juice, just mix it thoroughly. Your probably right Jim jevans unless your a brewer the world of slants and cultures are probably a different language. I do have a ultrasonic cleaner, although I tend to not use it too much as it's more bother getting it set up, so just run most things under a hot tap. Although it did a great job on my wife's rings. So don't rush to get one Jim.

I have most of the bits needed to make a mag stirrer, except the flasks and the stirrer bar. Just never got round to making one or justifying the need up till now. If this mixer fails then it may be plan B.

I've had my magnetic stirrer vortexing a litre of vg. It's in need of a small repair right now but does do a good job. TBH though a shake, cap on and left for 2 months seems to do just as good imo. kreed that was an interesting read and I can see that frothing too much air in could quite possibly dissipate a lot of needed chemical. After all we are using synthetic chemical flavours here.i used to leave caps off for 24 hours as well but now I only leave caps off after steeping if the juice has that chemical edge to it that does need a bit of airing. I feel all them chemicals are initially needed to induce and mix properly first to create the desired end product

All those of little faith in cheapo Chinese time to eat your hat. The mixer arrived today, and guess what. it worked and did a grand job with 70/30 mix. It even worked with 100% VG. Okay with water it was able to produce a cracking vortex. I was surprised it even started with 100%vg but it did, and was starting to draw in air. Then I mixed up 150mls of 70/30 juice and pressed go. It was off like a rocket. No vortex, but was mixing like a good un, and more vigorous than just using a spoon. I took a video on my phone which I'll upload later. So all in all for £5, not a bad buy at all. Not sure how long the 2 x aaa's will last, probably only a few mixes, but hey ho I can live with that. To operate you press a button for on and again to switch off. The base has a rubber disc which seals the battery compartment. Not dishwasher safe, but easily rinsed out under the tap.

Nice to hear you're happy Bobsbeer My friend is fixing my mega stirrer he made when he comes next week. Where as I used to leave it on for like half hour I think 10 minutes on my 450ml mixes. Just enough for a good mix up but hopefully not dispersing too much yummy

There must be something in the over stirring as last year (just happened to purchase one of those hand held blenders) and i noticed mixes were tasting bland after using it, saw a post on a US forum basically saying the same as kreed's post. I returned to the wee coffee whisk soon after and all the mixes from then on were fine again.

Yes car147 I've read it a few times around the net now.i think a good quick stir but not beating air into it crazily is probably the trick. When we made mine we wasn't happy until we could create a vortex in 1 litre of vg. Then I was leaving it on for ages. Change of tactics for me now and it will be 450ml no vortex but a good stir on the mixer for 10 minutes (when it's fixed)

This is the mixer with water. It shows the vortex, which is quite powerful, but obviously this is water not thick juice. The 70/30 mix was a bit more gentle.
I'll upload the ejuice video shortly.

Probably easy to fit a small jack plug socket and use a 1.5v transformer. Certainly save on batteries, but whether the motor could be upgraded to higher torque, it would be difficult to say, or run on a higher voltage mabe?. There is a screw visible inside the battery compartment, so how easy it would be to dismantle I don't know. I may unscrew it and see what happens. The unit is made out of plastic so I suspect some glue will have been used. None visible though. As it is, it works as a mixing machine, which is what I will be using it for. I doubt I will ever go above 70/30, and it coped with that. I will be mixing up a batch of 50/50 amaretto custard for my OH, so it will be interesting to see if a vortex will be created at that mix ratio. Certainly it will give it a good mix.
