Rusty Kanthal?

Has anyone else noticed their kanthal coils take on a rust like colour?
I usually run my build decks under hot water, blow the excess out then dry burn. I'm not sure if this is causing my claptons to rust or is the browning just a colour change not to worry about?
I got a little paranoid last night and swapped out 8 coils incase. If it was rust can it be harmful in any way?I'm thinking it might be better not to dry burn them while they are wet but then wait a pain waiting for them to dry.
Anyone help please?

It has iron in it, you often get rust spots on the reels of vape mesh/crazy wire stuff so I always clean any wire from them with wet and dry paper then acetone as some has machine oil on it, even pulling it through tissue you often get some filth marks left on the tissue. I don't know if there is any danger, I can't see why there would be unless something in your flavour reacts with iron oxide.

Hmmm it just doesn't seem right that I would be vaping rusty juice

Maybe try stainless steel? I've noticed the same on my coils, but not stainless...

Maybe not as lazy as you and I about making fused claptons. My last pair got to play in three atties before I binned them. I'm using triple twisted 0.3 SS now, and loving it - the lazy man's fused clapton...

Yes fair play with pragmatic twisting.
I used ss for about 12 months but I have gone back to kanthal lately and been enjoying it.
I was just wondering about kanthal rusting though really

My kanthal coils go rusty jtc, I don't make my own, I use some ready made from FT and my Ego CLR coils, my old coils for my protanks would go rusty too, all kanthal as far as I know, it never bothered me to be honest although when they got really bad I could tell so binned them or tried to scratch brush it off.

I didn't know if you were saying that you were more lazy than me or denying being lazy. My point was that my rusting was basically caused by using a complex build for too long. If you can pop out fused claptons easily, or use pre-made then you probably swap them out before you see the rust. Using stainless, or a simpler, more serviceable build would mean less likelihood of seeing the rust...

kanthal shouldn't rust, not red ferrous rust, aluminium oxide forms on the surface which creates the layer of insulation that stops the shooting between coils.

Don't suppose it's a bargain basement Fe-Cr-Al? Perhaps it's not up to spec

Yes I've had them in a few months so it was probably just that time for change.
I think I'll try and avoid dry burning them while soaked with water and see if this prolongs the life of them.
Probably psychological but things seem to be tasting a tad better with my new coils in
