Hello everyone

My name is anton, I've always lived in France.

I was a tobacco smoker for 3 decades. I started at the age of 16 or so. My cousin initiated me. Red P.S., I was so sick in the beginning but I insisted... Smoking looked so cool then, so socializing. Not a pleasure in the beginning but it'll come with practice, right? Once the addicition is set, it becomes easier.

I tended to smoke strong cigs in the beginning (high tar rate). During at least the last decade of smoking, I smoked the "lightest" cigs avalaible in France (P.M. One), i.e. the one with the lowest tar rate. I would cut the filter in two (pre-cut) so that I could get the toxicity in my throat with a minimum of tar taste. In the beginning, "light" cigs here in France were introduced as "healthier". That was obviously deceiving. I was aware of that but at least I didn't get that tar taste any longer. Very low rate of nicotine but its assimilation multiplied by various chemicals. I was aware of that.

I remember some rare times I enjoyed smoking cigs. Smoking a cig while waiting for the school bus, after no smoking during the weekend (near my parents). Other than that, no pleasure in smoking. Just smoking by necessity / stress (like eating because hungry but with no pleasure. Moreover that food would make me even hungrier). Cigs induce a stress they temporarily look like neutralizing, while it's just to intensify the addiction.

My parents are against tobacco. Since smoking stinks (as well), I had to be careful in the beginning, not to be caught by my parents. Yes, smoking stinks so much. French kissing not so cool after smoking (when it's not while smoking).

Anyway. Cig prices constantly rose here. 20 cigs = at least 7 euros now, and counting. I used to smoke about a dozen of ("light") cigs a day, half by half (I kept the halves outside in an ashtray).

Bad for my health, bad for my wallet... Last November, there was a national campaign against smoking. I decided it was time to start to quit. Not "to quit" yet as I was not quite ready then. But I was involved in the process. I have an e-cig. I got patches, gums.

Finally, I saw a physician "specialist in tobacco addiction". All he did were injection of novocaïn in the nose and ears (mesotherapy). Usually, it bled a lot so I really wondered whether the "precious" liquid remained in my body. That novocain/procain was supposed to take the place of nicotin in m receptors and stop the addiction.

Yes, as simple as that for him: just chemical. No consideration about the gestual habits (3 decades), stuff like that. Only a chemical answer...

To me, there's much placebo effect. Going to his office cost me three times 100 miles (fuel + highway to pay), three times 50 euros. That liquid that got bled away? Come on. It was time I quit and I did since the beginning of this January.

I don't feel any attraction to tobacco. However, I smoke one or two "cigarettes" with no tobacco (it's NTB in France). No tobacco/nicotine, no addiction but still tar, which is unhealthy. I could avoid smoking them but sometimes my chest burns because of need of smoking fumes (but not tobacco fumes).

Hello @anton.I smoked for 40 years and then due to health warnings I decided to try a cheap ecig.I did not want to stop but family pressure caused me to try it.I have been tobacco free for almost 5 years with no yearning for another cigarette.It really works
