Been vaping for 4 years. Started on Kanthal and fairly recently graduated to 316L. Same thing with both. I NEVER burn out a coil in either material. They would last a year if I didnt get bored and just replaced them- because I think I should. Usually, a dry burn and wash sees the coil almost as good as new (in my eyes) Maybe I am missing a vital symptom.
Would appreciate any thoughts as to when a new coil is actually needed.

Would appreciate any thoughts as to when a new coil is actually needed. I dry burn/rewick for as long as possible - largely because the faff of doing a complete job, does my head in. Boredom with eliquid is my thing, coils are like old and treasured friends to me!

Now I've found the wire I like I'm keeping my coils in as long as possible. I use kanthal and it does discolour like a rust but I've been told not to worry so I don't lol. I wash, dry burn and give them a little brush with a shaver brush. All done and keep em going

I will dry burn & re wick only twice because I find the coil gunks up faster after dry burning. I don't mind building coils, in fact i quite enjoy it, it's like rolling fags in the old days

*echoes the majority* I too get eons out of my coils, it's why I like and stick to kanthal mostly as they buff up nicely after weeks of abuse with a wash and scrub and burn!

Well, it seems I am not alone in making coils last a long time. I just had the feeling that there was a reason not to keep the same coils running.
Many thanks to all who replied.

I do recall seeing some extra extra magnified coil photos and there is some degeneration in coils from overuse so if you were being super vigilant then not dry burning endlessly would be a slightly safer option? But it's probably minor.
In the way I don't worry about occasionally using silica wick and food colorings in my eliquid ect. Is all minimal and is far safer than smoking!

Nothing wrong with a clean and dry burn. Even these coils were good to go after an MOT.

They are fine to dry burn and clean again and again the only issue really is as they get older the more frequently they need cleaning.

I'm with you on this, too. Dry burn, give them a brush and rewick when they start getting too gunked. My problem is I enjoy coiling and the only way I can get to do it enough is to have lots and lots of attys (good excuse, huh?).
