Glad to hear your making stealthy progress in the right direction lobeydosser. Keep it up but try not to overdo things chief. This wee guy is wondering if you might be able to book him in for a new hairdo. He's fed up with the sheep shearers around this vicinity.

Gosh I wish ours looked as good as him!!!!!
I wanted to start his haircut today, but between Polling Day and my first trip around to shops since getting out of hospital, I was totally wasted by the time I got home. I cannot believe how tired I feel after the simplest tasks. I do hope this places soon.

It will get easier but can take a long time. It's hard sometimes if you don't physically look like you have had a stroke for people to understand, don't apologise, just do what feels right for you :-))

Yesterday we did a visit to the Polling Hall and then on to the local village supermarket. That was my first shop since coming out of hospital. These two visits were enough to cope with. I am amazed at how tired I feel with so little effort.
Today I combed and then groomed the dog. Being a Bichon, he does not cast any hair and so he has to be cut. He is not finished yet, but at least the rough stuff is off and I will neatin him more tomorrow.
Thankfully the lovely sunny weather is making the garden a pleasant enough to sit in. Just a pity that half of it is still like a building site.
I have an appointment with a Speech Therapist on the morning of the 19th of May and another one on that afternoon from someone from the Stroke Hospital who is coming to the house to give me a check-up on how I am doing. I'd better the cut back on the Curries for that week!!!!!
A number of things have changed since my stay in the hospital including food tasters and drinks. Whether these are permanent or temporary I have yet to find out, but they are unusual. So much more is now different then just my state of health.

Thanks Bluefish Even the sense of humour bit seemed to take a hike today. The dog refused to play ball and would not sit still while I groomed him. I gave up and turned to watering the garden instead. After two sodden wet trouser legs, I gave up altogether and spent the rest of the day on the decking, listening to my noisily neighbours whilst I sunk a glass of orangeade or wrapped my lips around an Aspire mouthpiece.

Two weeks I ago I went through a stroke.
I got out of the hospital today.
Not good, but getting better I have.
I will try to keep touch.
Lobey. lobeydosser Sorry to hear that. Hang in there. Maybe a bit unsolicited advice from a sole carer of a stroke victim. Things will get better even if it doesn't seem like it now. I got the missus back after 6 weeks in hospital and the first 6 months after that were hell for her and me. I can easily deal with the physical part (she's left paralysed on the upper left of her body) of caring but the emotional not so much. There will be improvements coming for a long time.
Just FYI. Only because nobody warned us about it but it seems pretty common. There could be hallucinations coming. If so, please try to understand that your carer can't see them, all he/she can do is try to talk you out of them. Anyway, I hope you'll soon be your 'old' self again.

My thanks bioxx for your input. By the time I was a week in hospital and beginning to come round a bit, I had already sussed that there was people around me that were far worse off than I was. Even my fellow ward patients who appeared to be far in advanced speech wise, than me, were clearly suffering from other forms of strokes that did not effect me. Despite being put through all sorts of tests, they tell you very little in the hospital about what is actually going on. Indeed I am of the opinion that perhaps they actually do not know. I stroke can be so complicated and affect so many people in so many different ways, that it way be quite some time before they can pin point just what ways an individual may react. I reckon I have been lucky, so far, and I am hoping that Speech Therapy will sort me out, or at least help me to recover some of my normal speech. But I am very aware that there were fellow patients who were there in the ward when I went in and are still there now. There but for fortune, go you or aye.

^ I'm sure you'll recover a lot more.
While it seems to be true that most of the recovery comes during the first year, I still see little improvements in the missus after one a half year. So hang in there.

Well I have to say your written words have improved significantly in such a short space of time Mike

Thanks Greg Still having trouble with some words but "spellcheck" and to use of alternative words usually get me by. I start my first Speech Therapy session in a fortnights time, so that will be fun!!!!! I can usually write stuff if I give it the time to think about it, but saying it is a whole different thing. The spoken word will be my bugbear for a long time in come. Even if I do get improvements, I expect to get only about 80% back from what I had originally. Time to stop yakking to people and start talking to the plants!!!

Greg, I was just thinking the same thing - Mike lobeydosser, your written posts have improved immeasurably in a short time. Be patient, and I'm sure that with your determination things will quickly reset and you'll be out there laying your slabs before you know what!

Hi All.
Taking life so easy these days, I have almost fell off the decking on rather a few occasions. Personally I put it down to Sunstroke, but it could be sheer bloody laziness on my part.
It has only taken me 4 days to groom the dog. You'd have thought he had the coat of a Buffalo instead of a Bichon, but this fatigue is playing hell with my energy levels. The next job is to cut the front lawn. I expect that will take a combine harvester and a month to do.
Actually, if I wasn't feeling so worn out all the time, I would rather enjoy being waited on hand and foot. But. There is always a down side to everything!!!!!!

Your brain is working full steam to re-wire itself, that takes energy. Your writing has gotten so much better already, the rest will follow. If it is any consolation the missus still has to lay down/sleep twice a day for an hour. Through my research and conversations with doctors I've heard that playing virtual reality games helps improving faster. Maybe that's something for you to explore.
