The following is taken from here which I came across through one of jessica 's posts
MHRA launches TPD crackdown
The European Union’s assault on e-cigarettes, enacted by Article 20 of the Tobacco Products Directive, has been widely slammed as an unscientific and potentially dangerous law. However, vapers in the UK have been reassured by the fact that the government has taken a fairly lax approach to enforcement. That may be about to chance, as the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency – which is responsible for “interpreting” the TPD standards – announced a tightening of the rules on Wednesday.
It seems that the MHRA is not amused at some of the loopholes which have emerged since the TPD came into law. One example is tanks that come with a TPD-compliant 2ml glass fitted, but a larger one included in the kit. Another is a well-known tank which has a 2ml capacity when fitted with a special “fat” coil, but becomes 4ml with a standard coil installed. From now on any component that changes the liquid capacity will need to be separately notified – and it goes without saying that it’s going to be instantly rejected.
There are also rumours that the MHRA are unhappy with zero-nic flavoured liquid being sold together with a nicotine shot.
British vapers have been reassured by regulators and public health that a “light touch” approach would be taken to the regulations, so advocates are now disturbed that MHRA are tightening the screw so soon.
I always assumed the tank extension/spare glass would get picked up on but the thing about the nic shot is Not good.

After 7 decades on this planet, I've never been more depressed about how the world is going. We have stupid wars, terrorists, famine, disease, fraud in billions, acid attacks by kids just out of short trousers etc (could go on and on)... and then we have public paid 'servants' concerned about an extra 2ml of a liquid (plus related items) that is saving lives.

Which is completely at odds with the item Dave has also linked to: www.theregister.co.uk/2017/07/18/the_ecigs_war_is_over/?mt=1500398464638 " the TPD2 has raised regulatory barriers to entry for the producers of nicotine liquids, made the liquids weaker and thus less effective as a cessation aid, and has bound up the market in red tape. The reason it hasn’t been a catastrophe for the vaping supply chain is that the regulator the MHRA (the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) was told to back off while local enforcers, the Trading Standards Officers, have better things to do than harass vapers. "
I also heard on the BBC News this morning that Midwives are being encouraged to recommend vaping as an alternative for pregnant women. Who knows when contradiction abounds within Government departments . . . . . .

From the new Tobacco Control Plan, out yesterday: "In particular, the government will assess recent legislation such as the Tobacco Products Directive, including as it applies to e-cigarettes, and consider where the UK’s exit provides opportunity to alter the legislative provisions to provide for improved health outcomes within the UK context. " (page 27) Also: "At a national level the government will: • Review measures and activities which are affected by the UK’s exit from the EU, including the identification of de-regulatory measures that further health objectives. " So, the MHRA will in the future, hopefully, no longer be enforcing all the current provisions of the TRPR (TPD), as there appears to be a commitment from the government to review the law.

I have it on good authority that a two page amendment is being implemented into the TPD to close all the "loopholes". On the plus side it seems that there may be a relaxation on vaping in the workplace.
