As part of our awareness campaign we are designing a set of leaflets to explain the basics of ecigs and vaping to smokers. The set of A4 leaflets will cover the following topics; - What are electronic cigarettes?
- How do electronic cigarettes work?
- Healthier than smoking?
- Where can you use them?
- How much money can you save?
- Atomisers, Cartomisers and Coils
- Types of battery
- What is eliquid?
- Troubleshooting
- Useful websites
I know a lot of this has been done before, but we want to standardise the format and have them as pdfs on our website for anyone to print off and use. This will be a valuable shared resource for everyone with an interest in ecigs and vaping. Chrissie has produced some good stuff on here already, which we would like to use if possible? The idea is to make the language simple and accessible to someone who has never even heard of electronic cigarettes before plus include lots of good quality photos. Can you help in any of the following ways? If you know of good examples that already exist, could you please post links below. If you have suggestions for other instructional leaflets, please post below. If you have access to good quality photos that will bring these leaflets to life, please post below. Collaboration is important and will benefit us all and those new to ecigs. Thanks in advance for your help. Russell

I think the pdf idea is great Russ.
Worth getting us vendors to link to them as well, because it would help a lot of the new visitors to the site, who get a bit overwhelmed by the array of products.

- What are electronic cigarettes?
"An electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, is an electrical device that simulates the act of tobacco smoking by producing an inhaled vapor bearing the physical sensation, appearance, and often the flavor (with or without nicotine content) of inhaled tobacco smoke, without its odor or, ostensibly, its health risks. The device uses heat (or in some cases, ultrasonics) to vaporize a propylene glycol- or glycerin-based liquid solution into an aerosol mist, similar to the way a nebulizer or humidifier vaporizes solutions for inhalation.
The modern electronic cigarette's design was devised by Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik in 2003, though the earliest known description of its concept was authored by Herbert A. Gilbert in 1963."
- How do electronic cigarettes work?
Show few different layouts of simple/non-simple e-cig products cartridge+atomizer+battery cartomizer+battery
"The device's components usually include a small liquid reservoir, a heating element, and a power source, which may be a battery or a wired USB adapter. Most electronic cigarettes are portable, self-contained cylindrical devices in varying sizes, and many are designed to outwardly resemble traditional cigarettes. Most are also reusable, with replaceable and refillable components, though some models are disposable. Liquids that produce vapor for electronic cigarettes are available in many different flavor varieties and nicotine concentrations, including nicotine-free versions."
- Healthier than smoking?
I can't seem to find CASAA original for this (that was posted in Fin forum, but it lists some hazardous parts of regular vs ecig, so work something like that up... Fex carcinogens in recular vs ecig)
- Where can you use them?
Depending on the previous regular cig usage/strength.. Marlboro smokers are suggested to start with 24mg and decrease the mg over time. It is also said that when starting vaping you should try different flavors & different strengths to find the one that suits you the best.
(In case you start getting serious headaches from vaping it can be because of two things, too much vaping/too strong nicotine level or you might be someway allergic to PG. So try lowering the mg first and if that doesn't help switch to more VG % mixes)
E: Misread the Q.. That is ofc depending on the country's laws.. But basigly everywhere, unless the property's owner forbids the use (like some shops, malls, even bars)
- How much money can you save?
Nothing or a lot. Really depends on lot's of things: - Juice (premium juices costs more) - Gear (battery, mod, tank, carto, clearo, atomizer)
You can get a nice start with just 50-100£ --> To this part you could make some math calculations.. Like for me a days vape is roughly .50-1€ as I mainly mix my own stuff.. But then again do you calculate the gear to that also? If so the max savings come later on (if you put some money at the beginning instead buying all those sh**ty battery's that will just break after few uses).. So don't save at a wrong place.
- Atomisers, Cartomisers and Coils
e-cig wiki... Maybe add some small synonyms / dictionary of the most basic items needed.
- Types of battery
Battery's and battery contacts maybe... Most mod's/batterys use 510 connection (enter pic here) 510 is the same as "eGo" with the slight difference that eGo has outer threads to house the bigger systems also. (306 = 510 too (or was it)).. 901 is another often used.. Battery's can range from anywhere of 100mAh to 1300mah. And when going to the "mod" section, you can get anywhere from 300mAh to 4000mAh (HC has a great battey diagram to show the basic factory batterys..) On the side you could add pictures of AW IMR and TrustFire 14500.16350.18350.CR123.18500.18650. And ofc warnings about using non-rechargeable battery's or battery's not meant for vaping.. And suggest to use only those that the vendor tell's one should use in the mod's they sell..
- What is eliquid?
Small definition of PG,VG,PEG400.. Throw in few science stuff's about the and stuff they use them in our daily items. (PG + some researches date to WW2 or so.. Check CASAA for more info on that.. And I think toothpaste had PG in it)
- Troubleshooting
For troupleshooting contact your local e-cig vendor or join a forum for more information (seriously no use in trying to explain all the possible scenarios in one leaflet)
- Useful websites
casaa.org www.e-cigarette-wiki.com/ And some forum links (seeing you work UK-based ofc you should link here, UKV and maybe to ECF (not the eCigWiz ECF)

If you want someone to look over the text and beat it up for grammar, spelling and simplicity, I have some experience in this area and a decent technical understanding of ecigs. PM me if you have a draft that needs kicking into shape. If you want.

First of all lets not get too over elaborate. We are introducing new technology to the uninformed. Information overload doesn't help. I myself can become overwhelmed with this fast growing technology and I have been vaping over a year , so if you hit a newbie , no matter how intelligent they are , with too much "heavy" info they may well slip through the net. Basic but informative

Agree with Storm, keep it simple and to the point, signpost people that want to know more. A couple of posts in this thread have scared me off and I think I know what I'm doing

I also agree it needs to be kept as simple as possible & that's what I tried to do with my pics & vids & how to get started thread. I know that thread is now a tad outdated & needs to be updated, but I still hope it gives help to newbies.
