Vape tax: Budget 2018 introduces a tax on e cigarettes

The government is set to introduce a tax on vaping for the first time.



So-called "heated tobacco" products will be taxed at the same rate as hand rolling tobacco from April 2019.



Duty on rolling tobacco amounts to around £7 for the smallest, 30g packs.



It's unclear how this would translate to vape fluid, which is measured in millilitres, or whether there would be a minimum level of duty.

Tobacco for heating – As announced at Spring Statement 2018, the government will legislate in Finance Bill 2018-19 for a new duty rate for tobacco for heating. In these products processed tobacco is heated (but not burned like conventional tobacco) to produce, or flavour, vapour. This will be set at the same level as hand rolling tobacco and take effect on 1 July 2019.

So it looks like heat not burn products only - ie NOT Vaping

Heating tobacco still involves tobacco. IMO best that we distance vaping from heating tobacco.

They can tax heat not burn a little if they like. I don't care. Nor do users of the products in Asia... as I found out last week.

All in all... a relief really.

It was Labour who fought for the TPD and the conservatives who fought against it and conservatives who have introduced the least Draconian legislation in the EU. I don't like any of them but credit where it's due.

Got to agree with you there.  The Tories are more of a "less tax" government.  Labour on the other hand, love a good tax hike.

Anna Soubry was the one that got the EU council in closed session and got them to include the ecigs in TPD and she is ,was and still is TORY

But in still doesnt include liquid. And please realise, politics hacs moved on. Labour politicians have never laboured in their life. Few of the chosen have ever done a real real job.
