This was a question on VTTV's Dave's Tackle Box last night and I thought it was interesting. So, forgetting the 'to save money' side of it, as we know that can *sometimes* be debatable, mentioning no names, although it does save money without a doubt, what are the other reasons? The examples on the show were to satisfy nicotine cravings without the nasties in cigarettes, or because it's more enjoyable than smoking.

I wanted to give up smoking, I really had enough and I decided to cut down and hopefully sooner than later stop! I started rolling 10 roll up's per day and tried not to smoke more than the 10 which I rolled up. I was very determined and was worrying in how I'm going to stop that nasty habit? Then I saw the ecig advertised on my laptop, I thought I would give it a go! 4 weeks down the line, here I am, I love vaping and haven't smoked since

I switched to vaping purely for health reasons,i got so sick of a constant sore throat and smokers cough.I certainly have saved no money but being able to breath and run around with the kids is worth its weight in gold to me.

Wife came back with a menthol 10motives, I tried it, I liked it, so the following week, she came back with another 10motives disposable, non menthal (from tesco), I loved it, after 17 years I wanted to stop smoking and start Vaping. It was that simple, I had no want or will to give up smoking what so ever, Vaping was better. Haven't made any major savings yet, I found this forum and it's spend spend spend, but it has been like wading through treacle at times, times I've wanted to throw myself in front of lorry and give it all up, but it'll be week 3 next Wednesday Another few weeks and I'll be saving some pennies....... Sometimes makes me wonder though, I'm sat here typing on this forum, I have 4 cleaned and filled Clearomisers, 2 cleaned empty needle bottles, 5 used tissues, a baby wipe, 4 cotton buds, a towel, a pair of scissors, a bottle of RY-4, Banana, Karoffee-Kick, a large storage box on the table why did I give up smoking again? Will say one thing, without this forum and the friendly community and advice it has given I'd have been very lost and probably would be smoking still

Just in case any non members who are considering taking up vaping to save money read this, it can be done, if you want it to! Spending hundreds of £'s isn't necessary, I haven't! Averaged out, I probably spend about a tenner a week.

Tim, I have my box in the sitting room and I sometimes look at it and laugh to myself, but it's fun, tasty and it's kept us away from the nasty's. Ahhhhh not to forget we don't smell of cigarettes no more!

I actually noticed my teeth, no fancy toothpaste, and already a massive difference already No yellow fingers, to bits of tobacco and loose filters, no smoke smell. Heightened smell and taste......and all in less than 3 weeks. In another 3-4weeks (as I'm about to spend), I will be spending like you about £10/week, it is just taking a wee longer to get there than I first thought

I didn't intend to start vaping at all. My missus had bought a VIP e-cig kit from the shopping center and had gone two days without smoking. I told her it wasn't for me, I like my cigarettes too much. That night she went to bed and I settled down to have a couple of beers and watch a DVD. I noticed she had left one of her e-ciggy thingies on the table so I thought what the hell lets smoke this instead of my real ones for a while. A few hours later I was still vaping so I decided to check online to find out more, eventually finding this forum. I was shocked at all this new and exciting information, also how a bunch of ex-smokers weren't all swearing and killing each other, vaping must work. I haven't smoked a cigarette since that night and now the proud owner of several litres e-liquid, many egos, LT, cartos, tanks, clearos and what nots. Tomorrow we are making travel arrangements to get to Vapefest, it's become a great hobby for both of us.

I started purely for health reasons. I'd been rolling my own for a long time so it was already fairly cheap to smoke - cost wasn't a factor. I knew that smoking was killing me and I was 24/25 when I knew I just had to quit because I'd stand up my legs would be so red from lack of circulation and I'd get dizzy just standing for more than two minutes. Any time I had to walk anywhere I'd be horribly out of breath and felt so ill.
A friend of mine introduced me to ecigs and I was a little skeptical but knew it was better than trying to quit smoking cold turkey and better than forking out a fortune for NRT's. It worked a treat and I can safely say I have most of my health back. I'm not exactly a marathon runner but I can do what I need to without almost passing out.

For me it was completely unplanned, I didn't set out to quit smoking or to save money (good job since I have only achieved one out of the two ). I had been a committed smoker for over 20 years... a combination of rollies and Marlboro. I had a bit of a chest infection (sort of... self diagnosed) and wasn't really able to smoke much... I had been trying to just cut back while my chest cleared, but was finding it really tough. I had been aware of the existence of e-cigs for a while, in a vague sort of conceptual way... I had never given them any thought or consideration since I really didn't think they would work. But in my frustration at being unable to smoke much or cope with the lack of nicotine I made an impulse purchase of a Greensmokes starter kit... 2 days after it arrived I had stopped smoking without even trying or deciding to do so. Vaping was just far more enjoyable. I have an extremely stressful life and the thought of quitting smoking has never really been an option for me... dealing with withdrawal symptoms and cravings really isn't an option even though I have been aware for a long time that smoking has been effecting my health and I needed to quit to avoid an early grave. As long as I can avoid bankruptcy from excessive vape spending, I don't expect to have any problem with avoiding going back to smoking.

It was mainly for health reasons, I'd tried everything apart from Champix, I was never asked by my Doc whether I wanted to try this option, probably in his view I was not a very heavy smoker all he ever offered was the stop smoking clinic with their patches, gum, etc. The first time I tried with patches there was some success in that I stopped completely after the course for 18 months. I fell off the wagon due to a lot of stress in my life. I did try again and again, even tried hypnosis and accupuncture, but it didnt work, I was still smoking, usually 12 - 15 per day or up to 20 a day when stressed. The past 2 Christmas's I have suffered terribly with coughs, bad throat and chest infections and decided that there must be another way to get cigarettes out of my life. It was only purely by chance that I was browsing on MSE and came across the e-cig thread and saw a mini kit on offer from a certain company, so decided "here goes nothing" and placed an order. I also got directed to this forum and since then, have never looked back My chest & throat feels easier, I havent got that awful raspy cough and my teeth are a shade whiter Its now been 6 months since a nasty has touched my lips and have no intention of going back to them. Vaping is far more enjoyable, I've not saved any money due to buying a Provari, LT, Twist, shiny etched battery & a Penelope as well as juices but thats ok I will save later on perhaps ??? ??? lol

My story is similar to all of yours. I had smoking for 21 years giving up a few times but I was not a nice person to be around . I did really want to give up though and lurking on mse I saw the Ecig thread, came here and the rest is history. A huge big thank you to all of you for helping me to do this, I would have been far too confused on my own and would probably have gone back to the nasties without your help Thank you #KissBlowSmiley1#
